Remove Tasks

Hey there,

Phoenix has done an amazing job making DAOC more accessible by implementing a lot of quality life improvements. The most notable/important being the PVE changes making it much less of a grind.

The reason people play DAOC in this day an age is RVR. It's completely broken on the server due to all-day zerging. The only action is in task zones and nobody really has any reason to go anywhere else. The result is zerg-fest or very scarce action if you venture anywhere else. The beauty of DAOC was variability between zerg/keep capture/8v8/solo fights/smallmans etc etc etc. Tasks have really killed these dynamics. There is very little interesting keep warfare or capture or relic taking or interesting fighting outside of mass-zerg.

Suggestion would be to remove tasks all together or have them only trigger with low population (<1,500 for example)

Tasks are good, but there needs to be more reasons and rewards for doing activities in non-task frontiers.

Level 50 Collection Quests for gold rewards.
Treasure Chests that randomly spawn in the frontiers.
A different kind of task zone somewhere else.
Better feather rewards for taking keeps.
Realmwide buffs for holding Darkness Falls.

I like the tasks, I think they could be a little more open ended though, especially the keep tasks which usually result in 500 players making a circle around the task keep which just isnt gun or accessible to people trying to make it up there. I'd suggest opening the tasks up larger.. something along the lines of fight in Albion, fight in Hibernia, fight in midgard and spread those 600+ people across 3 or 4 zones but within the same realm frontier and get some better dynamic action going on.

I also think adding climbable walls on the mile gates would help to break up the stalemate and give those assassins some targets to try and hit to allow for a better push by the opposing realms. Could make it interesting.

That would certainly be a cool feature.

I would say due to the way people are playing here (chasing the tasks in zergs) is that people play DAOC for the Realm Points, not the RvR...it's just the RvR was the only way to obtain Realm Points before. Now you can get them for dieing in a certain zone to the enemy. It's very predictable since Realm Points are the only way to progress your character after templating out and most people play MMOs for the character progression, not the actual gameplay.

So you think that the thing that has all of these people out there in the frontier running around means the game is broken.........

There are RVR only shards out there. You are instantly level 50.
I suggest you go to one.

I don’t agree with removing them, rather I suggestion adjusting and adding more.

-Reduce RP’s gained by simply dying in a zone and/or keep by 50%

-Add RvR kill task rewards as in PvE

-Add keep capturing task rewards (non specific)

-Add Relic capturing task rewards (non specific)

-Remove all sub 40 players from earning RP’s through participation of the above- their participation highly unlikely contributed to a meaningful outcome of those tasks. Discourages blind “run to zone X die go back to PvE leveling” attitude. Additionally, this will encourage more appropriate RvR for lower level characters in the Battlegrounds.

-Scale the bonus RP’s per difficulty- Relic capturing is obviously more difficult than keep taking as keep capturing is more difficult than killing tasks.

Let players decide where they want to earn those bonus RP’s. This will encourage more dynamic RvR and players gravitating to various areas more.

The tasks main purpose is to move the zerg around, which is a very good incentive.

A lot of people will look at the rewards and say "WOW! So much RP's for so little!?" when in reality they are just low realm rank, and gain so much RP's to be able to compete with the time progression on the server. It makes sure people can stay with the curve, to make the powergap close faster. However, once you hit RR4 the tasks begins to reward much less RP's. At RR4 it is reduced from 1500 to 1150, and at RR5 from 1150 to 915, and you'll gain less and less RP's from the tasks while the gap to gain realm levels crawls higher and higher. This means that the higher RR you'll get the more participation you need to actually keep the momentum up which inevitably will become so hard that it matters absolutely nothing to high RR's but everything to low RR's. It is both an incentive to keep casuals in RVR as it is for hardcore players active, and move them around.

If you remove the tasks, everyone will just zerg one zone leaving everything else open. Emain is the "best" zone for all types of groups and that will be the designated zone everyone goes to, and it will return to the same boring OF fights that it used to be.

It needs to rotate somehow. Everybody has to get a turn making the long run. If it was just Emain all the time, I doubt I would RvR much on my Hib toons anymore.
