Champion viable?

I see all the changes to thane, paladin, and friar. Why no love for champion..? I’m thinking about rolling one (always looked fun, never made one) but being on a lower damage table than paladin and valewalker just kind of put me off.

Any idea why they gave them barely any love? Or are the devs considering helping out champs eventually?

Champs are in a great place. you can check out smoovers videos like this one:

he also has some group videos of his champ.

We tried it, not very convincing

Especially since the mentalist also have the Static Tempest RA

Low HP, not so much damage, only peel from front (or you spec blade / shield and you really have no longer any damage)

It may be one of the greatest class for solo or small man, but really not incredible in a full group

Lol...that pally looked to possibly be macro twisting.

That’s kind of what I’m leaning towards is a solo/small man build. I have a first time player friend who’s playing a warden and just trying to play something that compliments him. Never made a champ so figured why not but it seems like they get a lot of hate and barely any love, even though I remember them being pretty nasty on live back in the day.

Champion is mandatory in a hib tanker group.

Their debuffs got a huge buff (no pun intended) where their delve is affected by how many buffs the target has. Considering people will be fully buffed in groups, a hib tanker burst damage relies on the champ.

Yes they don’t have stoicsm, but det9 alleviates that a lot.

The pvp event showed it, the successful groups ran champ + savage + 4 support. That was enough damage to spike targets down in 1-2 rounds.

How did their debuffs get buffed..? Also champ+savage?

Also quick question. Best race for a champ? Hard not to make an elf for the sexy factor.

It was a pvp event (mordred style) so mixed realms.

Their debuffs delve are multiplied by the buffs the target has.

I believe (don’t quote me on the exact value) they do 2.2x delve on fully buffed targets, so your 73 str/con debuff hits for 2.2x its delve, which is extremely high (considering they debuff 100% value on buffs and 50% on items)

Also the Champ's insta spells don't cost endurance on this server which helpful. On live in OF, my Champ would be out of endurance for styles because of using maybe 2 rounds of my debuffs/dd/snare.

Celt is best Champion race IMO. Elf is too weak (looking). Lurikeen is 2nd best (looking).

Wait is that true that the debuffs multiply based on if the enemy is buffed? That is awesome if it’s true.

Also how bad is elf as a champ though..? Love the looks of elf. And how is shar?

Patch notes
2018-10-12 Friday
stat debuffs now always debuff their full value against mobs (previously also halved against unbuffed mobs, that's now only the case against player)
server startup performance work
Savage multi hit calculation has changed, dps should not be affected
pets should no longer try to target / hit themselves
Old way: check for quad, on failure check for triple, on failure check for dual hit, each with a chance based on weapon spec
New way: check for dual hit, on success check for triple, on success check for quad. Dual hit chance is based on weapon spec (chance has been increased), triple and quad hit chances are static but now scale with the dual hit chance
champion stat debuffs are more effective against buffed targets
attack speed debuffs poison values have been halved
added (Weak) Essence of Lethargy / Weariness

Come on, I wouldn't lie to you

Shar and celts are both goods classes. The spirit racial resist from the Celt is kind of useless though, since nobody nukes spirit (aside from air theurg that don't really exist). Shar has Energy racial resist that helps agaisnt sorc mezz.

Shar has more con than celt, but less quick. I'd go celt -> shar -> luri (I hate elves)

Dang that’s actually pretty awesome that the debuffs get a multiplier. Makes it a lot more worth while for champs in groups.

Thanks for the help!

Still torn between spec and race though. Leaning celt but the con bonus from shar is tempting.

I played an Elf Champion on the live servers, and it was a ton of fun. There really isn't a lot of difference in most of the races in DAoC. They designed them in a way that it seems like a bigger gap than it really is, the gap is much smaller too if you are fully buffed. Shar is nice to have a bit more HP, and Celt is really well rounded, but Elf just looks so much better. I also played an Avalonian Armsman though, so take this with a grain of salt lol.

Yeah I think elves look pretty sweet as BMs, could look even cooler as a champ I just don’t wanna gimp myself. I assume the damage from your DD is minimal with the bonus to int as a champ?

In my opinion don't listen to the fancy specs with shield. 50 LW 50 valor 10 blades rest parry and own shit. you are going to run with a hero and BMs, not your job to guard people. You don't need slam you have a 9 sec stun back positional. 10 blades is for a side snare, since it might be easier to pull off than the frontal one from LW.

And Elf BMs exist because they go pierce and higher dex/qui makes sense. Dex is useless for champ so it's wasted stats.

Yeah I realize that an elf champ isn’t the best option but just how bad is a elf champ compared to celt or shar
