It is tough to balance reward systems. Too low rewards create not enough incentive. Too high rewards can create inflation etc..
I think that some of the reward systems here are tuned pretty well. The realm tasks reward players with roughly 3000 RP for participating. I find this a pretty solid reward for doing realm tasks. It allows players to reach RR5 in a more reasonable amount of time. If the RP reward was 300RP instead of 3000, then i don't players would bother with them.
Then I examine some of the other reward systems on the server.
Caravans. Are Claw Merchants bugged? Right now it costs 10 claws for 1 potion. You spend perhaps an hour or more farming 10 claws while possibly being ganked, then you go to turn in your 10 claws and in return you receive a potion that only gives a 5% BP or RP buff for 20 minutes??
This whole time I was thinking that the 10 claw turn in was for 10 potions of your choice. It turns out it is only 1 potion. It should be 10 claws for 10 potions. Otherwise I don't see much of an incentive to be farming these caravans right now. I would increase all of these buffs. 20 minutes to 1 hour. 5% to 10% etc.. or more
Then I look at Keep takes. Right now keeps give maybe a few hundred RP and 50 or so feathers. Sometimes more and sometimes less. Keep takes are such an integral part of DAOC. It practically defines RvR, and while yes controlling keeps allows access to Darkness falls, but how about some higher instant reward for taking keeps?
Keep takes should be giving thousands of RP and hundreds of feathers, as well as tons of claws. There should be a Pinata hanging from the rafters of the Keep Lord room. Let players just beat on it until the feathers and rp come raining down.
I think it is better to over-reward players early on. We want players to be excited about these great RvR mechanics on Phoenix and taking part in them as much as possible.
What will keep players playing Phoenix isn't fun for the sake of fun or good ole DAOC. Systems that constantly offer worthwhile rewards is what will keep players playing.
