Maybe I'm wrong, but it's usually how it goes (even big companies make the same mistake): every one tries to register, it's a mess, server crashes, people are frustrated and so on.. Please think about it and the best way to handle it, thanks!

They already have a pre-weekend where you can crete chars/reserve names, and run them to where you want to level

how are they supposed to stagger the load in this case though?
All i could think of, would be to have release tuesday/wednesday during the night US early morning EU. That would considerably reduce the instant log-ins....

but they have already decided to make it saturday primetime...so i guess they WANT a huge starting event.

And i can understand, no matter how you turn it, having people ranting all over the internet that the game is TOO POPULAR and too many people are online is good for small projects like this. And having many people in all the starting zones will also be a situation/athmosphere that can't be replaced

Server won't have 1,000 even playing on day 1. No worries.

maybe, maybe not

afaik uthgard was crushed under the load and started with multiple thousand players

why do you think the interest in DAoC freeshard would be so much lower than then?

I know my opinion is just an example, but me and 4 of my freinds are burning to start here but didn't care much for uthgard because of the tedious grind to get RvR-ready

If the server population at launch day is even half of what Uthgard had on launch it will bust 3k

I didn't know about the pre-weekend but I was thinking of some pre-registration and limit registration/close registration if it's obvious there are too many people.

There is a lot of hype on reddit about phoenix but maybe there won't be so many players who knows.

Is it going to be possible to use the forum accounts everyone already has? Or do we need to make new accounts when server goes live?

I am 99% sure that we will keep these accounts. They are wiping the character databases etc...not the accounts themselves

The wipe (all chars on your account will be deleted) will happen between Dec 21st and Jan 3rd (when the server is closed for public). Then we will open the server for Jan 4th, 5th, and 6th. Thats the time when you can create chars, stress test the server, reserve your names. Jan 7th till Jan 12th the server will be closed again. All items, progress on chars, etc will be wiped again.

When you login on Jan 12th (launch of the server) you will have naked chars (except binstone and training weapon) with zero gold, xp, items, whatsoever, those chars will have the name, that you gave them when you created them during the stress test.

If you already know where you want to begin xping at launch, you can log out your toons at the end of the stress test at the spot where you want to start. This could be interesting if people want to xp together. It might also be a good choice to log at a spot that is not that popular. For example in Hibernia you might bring your toons to Howth, Ardee or Connla as Mag Mell and Domnan will be pretty full of people.

Also keep in mind, that your bindpoint will not be deleted.

Will be the quickbars / macros also deleted or stay?

Those are stored locally on your computer. You might automatically get them if you make a character with the same name, but I think the CharacterName.ini file usually has a number after it for duplicate names, so maybe not.

Go find those files (somewhere in app data/roaming/electronicarts, sorry I'm not on a computer with DAOC atm) and make a shortcut there. You can do a test now:
1. Make a new character.
2. Log out to character select screen.
3. Open the character ini file for your other character with macros.
4. Select all / copy
5. Open the new character's ini file
6. Paste, save, close
7. Log back in to new character

You should have the macros.

However you probably won't have the styles because your new character won't have the same spec. It might work if you spec the same and then do the steps above, but I would suggest taking some screenshots to save where your styles are before launch, just in case. This will also save the whole UI layout as well, I always do this on new characters so my UI is positioned the same across them all.

Anybody who thinks that Phoenix is not going to be a 5,000 person success. Does not understand the game.

There will be over 4,000 people banging to get in this game.

Phoenix has done it right, this will be the last hurrah of Dark Age of Camelot, folks you better enjoy it
