I think population is down because you have two type of players now:
1. Temped, realm rank 5+, established toons with pots.
2. Casual, new, or testing players with lvl 40 toons with like 6 body resist, +40 hits, and the wrong weapons. A few pots.
They see a task message and run out to "test" how realm rank 0, lvl 40 toon, with crap gear do vs, rr 6-9 toon, with temps, and combined force pots.
Let me tell you how this test goes. It doesn't. It does prepare one for how things will be when new players come to the server vs the godlike established players later.
If tasks stay in, as now, there will be no BG activity. Why would there be any?
Without some balance, like npc buff, casuals will continue to have exactly zero chance vs established toons.
XP items, which are now good for leveling toons, will be hogged by established farm toon players and casuals won't be able to compete at the camps.
The rich will get richer, the poor will remain poor. The gap between established and casual will be ever growing.
Hardcore players will farm casuals. Casuals will zerg from task to task, suiciding into keeps which are defended and thus pointless and senseless.
Hardcore players will take the house spots, and sell xp items and raid drops, and become ridiculously rich. The economy will soar with inflation.
Everyone will have an alchemist or sc-- if they want to compete. Players will hit their pot button every 10 minutes, if solo, for life of the game.
6 months in all established players will be rr 8-10
All established players will have so much gold as to make money of zero value.
New players will be children carrying bags full of rocks fighting gods.
They will need to :
1. Create farm toon.
2. Level their toon to 50.
3. Make crafters.
4. Temp their toon.
5. throw themselves over and over into keeps and task, dying to established players over and over just to get to rr 4-5 so they can have a small chance to compete.
To prevent all this nonsense:
1. Buff npcs.
2. Tasks need to stop at rr 5.
3. Tasks need to begin at lvl 35-- when players become green.
4. xp items need to stop dropping once you have received 10 per hour per mob. To stop xp item farming toons from hogging xp items.
BTW, we need instant 50 and capped gear and rr 5 to TEST, im not sure what we are testing now with ridiculous unbalanced scenarios like we have now with garbage gear 40s vs gods. Why wait til the perfect time to i50? Trying to do a stress test? For testing, rather than epeen purposes there is every reason to put i50 and zero reason to keep it out.
