Skald leveling question - Phoenix Freeshard

Been playing for 2 weeks now with a BD and want to try out a Skald. All the guides i've been reading say keep BS even with your level. Put points into Hammer when you can. Is this about right? Also what class should I pick? Troll? I will be solo most of the time while leveling. Might try to get into a guild when I get comfortable playing the class.

Generally it is true. But you are able to keep the BS line and the hammer line on level composite both, which could be more useful.
Due to the unlimited respec possibility on Phoenix you could each level check if you could take a very important shot or style and go for this, pushing the follow levels the other line. Not satisfied? Just respec again to balanced compsite or full BS, others - hammer.

Troll is perfect choice. Norse also is quite OK.
Even a dwarf is a decent choice if you plan to cruise with 1-2 caster together due to small size .

But troll is most easy to level, especially alone. It s like, you have augmented strength 5 for free already from the very beginning.

Leveling sounds about right....as mentioned I would pay around with specs if you want. Hammer is best for endo useage on the anytime, plus the 7sec stun is great once you get into the 30's, I respeced since playing in groups and then started back with BS. I was s/s through most of the leveling process (5% block is better than nothing!) . Anyways I think skalds level very nicely, I only did a few groups in DF towards the end push to 50 (and needed gear).

I'm a dorf...sure you have lower str, but you get the most freaking awesomeness eye patch and get MOA4 free!
