Question about wife having account

I know this has been gone over in another thread but I just want to make sure I know exactly what is ok and not so I don't get nailed for dual logging.

My wife and I each have our own computer hooked up to the same wifi.

She is finally thinking she wants to try DAoC.

What exactly do we need to do to set up her account? Do I need to email a dev to tell them what account name she has so they know 2 accounts will be playing from the same wifi and the same house?

I know you say to limit AFK's to no more then 5 minutes to avoid looking like a bot. Is she, or am I, allowed to use our own accounts to follow around and buff each other to help the other person lvl faster? Can I use my 48 Menty to give her Ani/Eld/Ench red PoM as long as she is actively playing her account? She will be playing the same realm as I am, but what if she wants to play mid later and I stay Hib?

I love this server and don't want to cause any issues, but I would love to get her hooked and playing with me.

Should she only play when I am not to avoid conflict? Or as long as someone is actively playing both accounts will we be ok?

I did read the serer policy BTW and there is nothing in it about 2 computers from same house other then dual logging is not allowed.

I just want to verify what I can and cannot do without getting anyone in trouble.

To setup another account - simply have her make another forum account of her own, with her own email/password as any new player is allowed to do.

You are both allowed to be online at the same time, but you both will be required to play the same realm. The current system won't allow you to play on different realms than each other to prevent abuse.

You are allowed to buff each other - but there must be two people playing each character. If you buff her and go AFK and don't respond when we check you - you will appear to be a bot.

Or as long as someone is actively playing both accounts will we be ok?

Yes. This is the crucial aspect of this. Look at it from our perspective - you find two people logged in from the same IP and one is stuck to the other having buffed the other, and is not responding. This appears as a bot from our perspective. If there are two people playing two accounts, it will be obvious to us, and you will be fine.

Hopefully this clears things up for you. Please let me know if you have any further questions and myself or another staff member can further clarify.

Perfect thanx =)

I was wondering about the other realm thing because I can see how that would be abused.

No biggie, if she decides to try another realm we will both switch at the same time.

Thanks for the response =)

And if you need to do an afk, just log out to avoid the issue of being gone when they decide to test you.

Yeah, that's the plan so there is no issue.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I'll play the bad cop part ... the or else should probably be mentioned ... by policy bot accounts are perma banned, so do take care that your behaviour is always above question because that's all that is measurable from an admin perspective. Take a look through the ban list, and try and take a guess at how many of those tried to explain a botted account as an 'afk wife'. So on that note, take great care and have fun

Are my wife and I allowed to play different realms at the same time during the beta?

I have been assuming that it is ok for my wife to go AFK for a bit (to get a drink or something) as long as I am not doing anything on my account. Can a dev confirm that this is OK? Obviously she won't respond since she is AFK, but we aren't doing anything in game. (I generally just stand there, sometimes I /dance with random mobs and/or passers by.)

Edit: We were actually tested once, and she is terrible at strafing and the person thought she was a bot, (They didn't ban her thankfully) can there be a secondary test if the person just cannot strafe?

Just think about how the situation would look to a GM watching, and act based on that ... Also take into consideration that an observing GM not only does not have the ability to see whose bum is on the seat at the controls, and has just had 3 people in a row earlier that day try to tell them that a botted account is an 'afk wife', and they likely won't have a whole lot of trust to give your words, thus only your actions speak a language they can listen to and act upon.

Well for me my wife will always be close by if she goes afk. Like someone else said it would be mainly for a bio or get a drink.

If she were going to leave for anything more she would simply log.

Someone else did ask, what if we BOTH go afk and are just sitting next to each other in game but neither are taking actions?

My wife NEVER looks at the chat, we are screwed LOL. We have been playing for years together on the free shards so far without any issues though.

One of the ways they test you is to port your characters to a room where they have you do something like run figure eights.

I’m assuming they will be lenient for short-term AFKs to return and I doubt any person no matter how inept could miss noticing that they have been ported.

i agree if they ban afk chars, there is no other way to find out if its a dual log

My wife and I play from one router. We each have our own accounts. We were pulled aside 1x by some dev to see if one of us was a bot. We passed the bot tests and now play worry free.

About a week ago a GM popped in as my wife and I plus an old buddy were leveling lowbies on our normal weekly Friday night trio. We had a ment and two animists so the rate of killing was pretty high. Not sure if a passerby was suspicious or a GM just was checking us out. He was very polite and asked if he could make sure one wasn't being botted. We were happy to comply and were taken to a sobriety test location in DF. After a couple of minutes he was satisfied we were in fact a husband and wife team. He "tagged" our accounts to avoid any further confusion.

There have been a couple of times my wife went afk to do something for more than a few minutes. She typically plays healing classes. It's her jam. When this happens, I always disband her, remove my buffs and move her to a safe location while I continue to farm mobs. It's a small price to pay to both follow the rules and keep the GMs happy.

PS: Loving Phoenix so far! Great work you lovely GMs!

I would have banned you, simply out of jealousy for being so lucky as to have a family member that enjoys playing DaoC with you
Wife and 3 kids (2 being old enough to start playing) and yet I sit in solitude

It's nice to have a mate to help each other level....and play together. :-)

I'm very lucky to have a wife who games as well. I never have to beg for healing in a full group or just duo. Daddy knows who getting healed first. Well unless I hear her yell at me for over-extending. I get an earful before I get the rezz love.

Moral f the story, don't piss off the wife that heals you.
