Broadsword is going to kill DAOC Freeshards this fall. With free-to-play RVR

Its called endless conquest, and it will allow players to make an account without a subscription cost, to be able to play RVR from 1-50.

My dream came true. Finally, I don't have to play on garbage freeshards to get what should be free gameplay (20 years after release, this game shouldnt have a subscription cost anyway - but beside that... )

The best part of the game is now going to be completely free! My only hope is they include the coveted stealther classes for availability.

With things like
Throttled EXP/RP
1 character slot, and no access to buff classes
cant turn rp or xp off using the /rp off or /xp off commands
rr3L9 MAX
no tradeskillls
no trading non-crafted items
and a paid bank and vault...

its the absolute PERFECT trial account. and my hope is it crushes the Freeshard competition with free to play will be a reality.

yeah ok...you didn't bother looking at the restrictions did you? No buff classes at all and good luck enjoying pvp when you have guilds that have plenty of realm rank 12s and 13s running around everywhere fully templated. Freeshards exist because people don't want to play live where everyone is 50 in a day or two and 90% of the game is trivialized by making it super easy to level and nothing under red can kill you. But as soon as you get to 50 then you hit a brick wall.

Freeshards are not about playing for free it's playing a game not available anymore.

I read too last week about this, and after i saw all restrictions, i just thought : is this a desperate attempt to repopulate their servers ?
I wouldn't worry much about this and freeshards getting empty because of it, lol.

Far as I'm concerned until there is a freeshard that allows multiple account logs they are all going to fail.

I multiboxed in 97' on The Realm Online and have on every MMO since.

It ain't DAoC if you are limited to 1 account. It's just a sad parody because multi logging was always a real part of DAoC.

I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed farming/pl'ing with my Necro/Cleric, Druid/Chanter/Menty, SM/Healer/Shammy.
Just like I enjoyed running 6 wizzies on The Realm Online and my Pally/Chanter/Druid and SK/Shaman/Bard on EQ and Engi Spam on AO and hell even PL'ing new builds with a hammerdin on D2.

As it stands I can multibox on BS DAoC and there is nothing interesting to do..... or I can single box on a private server and be bored as heck never finding anyone to group with during my typical play hours of 10PM to 4am EST.

isnt BS also banning for multiboxing nowadays? Atleast in PvP where it was the most fun.

I think preferring multi boxing to just playing the game normally puts you in a very small minority of players, unfortunately.

Mythic made a conscious choice to follow the money by allowing botting and in the long run it did not serve them well. Casual players make up the core of any MMORPG and by catering the basic RvR environment so heavily to players that were hardcore enough to run 1-2 extra accounts every time they logged in the majority of the population lost interest. The group of people I knew in real life that played DAoC mostly quit because of the extra time & money investment plus the additional hassle of logging in multiple accounts just to compete. At the time computing power was a huge issue, too.

Most people do not enjoy feeling forced to log in to multiple accounts just to play the game, and it creates serious balance issues for several classes if everyone has spec buffs/whatever else.

You shouldn't have an issue finding groups US late night once the server goes live and the population balloons to several thousand.

I still find it fun. The $15 a month is negligible really. It's a 17 year old game and a lot has changed good and bad over the years.

Biggest reason I still play is that I can find solo fights and small man 24 hours a day. They also have done buffs right finally. They have yellow conc buffs via NPC, and red maxed buffs via affordable all in one pot charges.

That being said I also like classic daoc. I like the nostalgic OF feel of the server here. I also like the old RAs and not having to manage MLs and CLs.

I don't care much about titles anymore. I was the 2nd sb on the lance cluster to get LE back in the day. Already got it on my inf also. I'm more looking for good fights with people that know their class well. Ill hit up dual town, mile gates, the lake, or keeps. Honestly I dont even care about RPS anymore. Out of the 3 I must say that my lowly rr7 ns is the most fun of the sins I've played.

Instead of making meaningful changes to the game Broadsword and their predecessors simply churned class abilities and pissed everyone off by negating everything a player had worked for. THIS ENDLESS CHURNING is in their dna. It is why their player population has walked, and in some cases run away, from them.Combine this with non existent customer service,15 year old bugs that never get fixed, and you have the stinking pile they have become.
