Sorry really hope this isn't spam, I realize I'm late to the party (XP Item / Task Changes)

Just wanted to voice my discontent with the changes to the XP item turn in / task completion token rewards.

Prior to the changes, when I was playing a non-groupfriendly class (read: anything besides PBAOE, heals, basically anything that swings a weapon) on Alb or Hib (since I don't play mid) I would:

Find cool places to level. Kill task mobs until I got a stack of 10, maybe completing the task (15 kills) as well.

Do a turn in.

Go to the next mob, do the same thing. I'd get to explore a bit, fight mobs, and feel relatively content with the amount of work I did to get to the next level. This worked all the way to 50.

Now - after the changes - It's still the same thing concerning not getting groups with melee characters. I never get groups on an Armsman, Valewalker, BM, Ranger, Reaver, ETC - they just aren't valuable in the current meta partial-afk leveling method.

When I solo now, it's absolutely dreadful. Levels feel as if they are taking 5-6x longer. This is especially noticeable after level 40. I'm still not getting groups.

Now - if the changes have provided more people in the frontiers RvRing - that's totally okay and acceptable. I support the changes if this is what happened. If the RVR population has not increased, I hope that maybe the option to turn it back is proposed.

Currently - soloing is abysmal, and still no one groups my tanks and melee characters.

Also - I love this server! I think you guys have done a great job and I really love playing here. I love DAoC and I love what you've done with it. I'm noticing now, after this recent XP change, I'm just not playing Phoenix now unless it's RvR. Thank you so much for doing this server. It's just wonderful to have around and I'm sure you all will make great choices for the server even if I disagree with it

Great assessment

And anyone not xping in the frontier(except maybe DF)before was hurting themselves. Soon as I hit 14 or so I almost exclusively come in frontiers. 24 50’s

That's correct.
Problem after the changes now is, that you need longer to get XP-items, and when being killed the participation task grants you less XP.
So basically, if you are 35++ and go hunt XP-Items in FZ, you are spending more time there, being a better target for gankers, and at the same time getting less reward for being ganked.
On top of that, they added Tasks for killing Monsters in Classic- and SI-Zones.

So to be honest, now, after the changes, after becoming lvl 35++, i rather would level not in frontier anymore.. it will be slower, but you also don't lose time with running back and forth as you just were killed again, and again.
Rather get some XP-items outside of FZ, and get some good mobs with XP-bonus on, together with tasks, it still works, just a lot slower as before, but also less RP you are gifting to others, too bad for those, running through FZ wanting to kill XPers

I totally agree with u and with the OP.

When i log my xp toon (so rarely now, due to last changes), i go in nf, start to farm until some ganker kill me, then i go xp in classic/si zone until rvr task end.

At the moment, the best way to level toons is with a 50 and a 35 class farmer chars. U will farm urselfes task items for new toon... So boring... I rly prefer pre-changes leveling experience

I've been saying this since the changes but I'll toss in my lot with you.

The post I made about this was titled "Make Server More QoL, Not Less" ...not an apt enough description apparently but yeah.

What would you suggest to make things better? I thought the changes COULD have been good, but they nerfed XP and drop rates too hard. Just bump 'em up a bit more so people stop price gouging...and also provide a heartier social bonus for melees to actually encourage using them in PvE.

I was already pretty lazy on the leveling front prior to the changes. I have a 42 Hero, 39 BM, and 35 Champion, and it feels like I can gain about one level if I finish 6-7 tasks, but then the second ones take so long when solo, I just log off. The turn in items that used to give 8-9 bubbles of XP now only give around half of that, unless they are 3 or more levels lower than you are, in which case they give significantly less. Which is quite sad. Hopefully they will boost the drop rate slightly, and up the turn in XP back to what it was.

This XP change mystifies me. Why make levelling slower?

I would argue for the old /20 command where if you had a 50 you could create a lvl 20 instantly.

Anyway, it's a great server and we won't all agree with their decisions.

I do not know in which timezone you are playing but shield tanks should get groups anyway. They are usually needed in pbae groups. Can not say that for offtanks/hybrids like valewalker. For this I would really suggest you to build a group by yourself, often almost a full group is looking but people do not dare or just lazy to build one. Beside that, your best bet is accepting these changes and doing your realm task for each mob type one or two level, turn in xp tokens (rvr tasks meanwhile) and wait for resets. Takes longer but not impossible.
As far as I can tell they wanted to promote group xping and and prevent this solo farming, suiciding on keeps and repeat. From my experience it worked, it feels slower in general (ofc) but there is more group building. I even experienced tank groups on alb or weird setups with necros (deathsight). In setups with non fotm/pbae classes they were usually puller and build the group by themself.
Beside that, I do not any see point in this changes especially after this long time and I appreciated the fast/soloing method before too but I guess we have to deal with it now

Groups aren't super interested in tanks. Building your own group is fine but plenty of people don't have the time/resources/patience to run a group - they'd rather solo. It's a QoL server - let them solo quickly if they want, and make grouping super fast again. No reason to nerf this. People will just quit instead of go through the trouble.

This is what most players are doing now. AFKing out on RvR task and turning in tokens, or farming tokens with a 50 and swapping them. New players who see this quit, and casual players who enjoyed their solo or small man XP are just quitting instead of this boring change.

Not happening on Hib. Instead everyone rolled animist, are still AFKing out on the task, or they just quit. If they wanted to promote grouping for XP they could have done a lot of different things that didn't involve flat nerfing so much about the XP.

If you mean "Get frustrated with the new slower speed and just quit" then yes, you right. That's how a lot of people are 'dealing' with it.

I know I’ve decided many times to just hit the bed instead of logging on knowing the slow progression I face
