What does a SM bring to the game . A mezzer ?
BD's with multiple pets seem to be physical oriented and quite powerful.

I would appreciate getting educated on both these classes.....please.

Thanks.

They have completely different roles and usage.
Regarding PvE, the BD is probably the best solo farming class in Midgard (Darkness spec), SM is the best group farming / exp class in Midgard (Suppression spec)

Regarding RvR, the BD is mainly an interrupter, with high survivability but not so high dps (Suppression spec), and has very good RAs (TWF and Bedazzling Aura). The SM in RvR has many faces, if you have it specced Suppression it will be a real mincer defending or attacking towers / keep, but with less utility in open combat. If you have it specced Darkness it will be a very good ranged dps.

So bad that the Summoning spec for SM is completely useless now, both in PvE and RvR.

Both are very strong 1v1.
I think SM is better solo because they are stronger against assassin than BDs and assassins will be your number 1 enemy.

RvR - BDs are preferred over SMs usually

XP - BD is better solo
XP - supp SM is better for groups

It really depends on your playstyle. What are you intending to do
I'll just give a quick summary of SMs because I am more familiar with them

Dark spec: Solo/nuking spec
Lifetap
D/Q debuff
resist debuffs (body/spirit/energy)
AoE/PBAoE mezz

Suppspec: Pbaoe spec
Pbaoe
Str/Con debuff
haste debuff
single target mezz that last longer than the dark spec AoE/PBAoE mezz
demezz

summoning
useless
