Melee damage calculation

Hello guys

While I was surfing looking for the formula to have an idea on how the melee damage is calculated I found out this website :

http://talsyra.tripod.com/daocmechanics/base_damage_mechanics.html

Now what surprised me was a couple of things :

slow weap bonus = (1 + ( ( SPD - 2 ) * .03) ) )
2h weapon bonus = (1.1 + (0.005 x 2-hand Spec) )

So according to them if you have for example a 2hander 50specced your dps is boosted by 35%.

Is this true?

Probably. At the time that the calculations and other stuff went up on this site it was pretty extensively tested. There was a lot of discussion on the IGN/VNboards to verify and continued verification from the Postcount community.

While the site gets a lot right there was more extensive testing done around 2011, which this https://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Melee_Damage is based on and that's what we're using here. Key difference, among a couple things, would be no single number growth rate for styles.

How is Archery figured in to the above? I see no specific mention of it on that site. I've heard it stated that Archery is just considered a melee weapon...is this the case?

Yes, archery is basically just a two handed weapon and has a couple special handling like the arrows, crit shot, rapid fire etc.

Other servers that shall not be named had many concerns from archers that damage was not quite right. They only recently put a fix in for the formula...

"Slow Weapon bonus = 1 + ( (spd - 2) x 0.03)"

Maybe something to consider/check on Phoenix...

That was already in, we're not using the same formula afaik as we're based on https://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Melee_Damage

What i can confirm from an easy check on melee dmg is that indeed 2handed weapons have a binus of about 35% at lvl 50 but the grow rates seem to not follow that rule.
1h grow rates are like expected and let's say 0.6 GR...100base + 60gr = 160
2h grow rates apparently aren't affected by the "2handed bonus" so : 135base + 54gr = 189
in both cases using same style same target and same speed. Using the 1hander the gr is +60% while using the 2hander the gr is around 40% of the base dmg. Now the figures are not accurate but it seems that the grow rates don't consider the 2handed bonus or other slow weaponf bonuses.
Is this correct?

That is correct. The 2h bonus is only applied to the base damage in the formula.

what about bonus for using slower 2h weapons like a crafted 5.5 2h hammer vs a 5.8 speed dragonstorm.

If you attack using the same attack speed (lets say you have MOTA or something with dragonstorm and not with crafted) will you see more damage from the 5.8 vs the 5.5 even if they attack at the same speed, or will the damage be superior for a 5.8 attacking at 1.5s vs a 5.5 attacking at 1.5s (or whatever constant attack speed you want to use/claim)

Base damage is not affected by any kind of haste, for the base damage only the weapon speed is relevant. Haste / the actual swing speed is only used for style damage.

Hey,

You can try my spreadsheet if you like i hope it is correct: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14LXLNIKKFqH5x-66XY1aw8M3tif3IzRjpZF9Q-f8hkQ/edit?usp=sharing

Sorry but this could be possible.

STYLE_DAMAGE = (STYLE_BASE + (SPEC - STYLE_LEVEL) * STYLE_GROWTH)
* SWING_SPEED
* DAMAGE_MODIFIER / 10
+ BASE_DAMAGE * TOA_STYLE_BONUS

Warrior 50 Sword
Ragnarok has a STYLE_LEVEL = 50 => (SPEC-STYLE_LEVEL) = 0
If this Formula works, each Warrior would use the Level 1 Style.
(SPEC-SYTYLE_LEVEL) = 50-1 = 49

That's why you have the fixed style base, which is usually higher for later styles which basically offsets the spec difference so that in the end the style growth difference between styles remains. Also it doesn't end at 50 but is comp spec.
