Are they worth making on this server or not?

They wont be "worth" making. The only reason it has worked in previous iterations of DAoC is because of Physical Defense. If you really want to play one it's not like you wont be able to win fights and get kills-- it will just be hard mode.

Plus with the MoS changes on Phoenix, archers are at a distance disadvantage to assassins (assuming equal stealth stats). If you're going to be melee, might as well be an assassin.

You'd probably want to start as Bow until much higher RR before you could start considering shifting into a more melee based spec.

Currently playing a hybrid shar ranger. Have been leveling hybrid as well and it's working out pretty damn smooth. At 32 I have like 18blades, 23cd, 21archery, 26PF and I can solo OJs easily. Crit shots w/ good arrows do a lot of dmg and I can burn them down fast once they get to me. I'm curious to see how it'll work out in the end but so far so good!

I started a melee ranger myself, but without PD it will be tough. The weapon damage is still there, but it won't be easy to solo. Probably more viable if you plan on running in a set stealth group.

I know what you're thinking...

Still a wholly different game with TOA artifacts vs. classic non-PD Ranger.

Well you got Avoid Pain which is the Oh Shit button when an assasin finds you. The rest of the fights you can decide by yourself and shouldnt need Avoid Pain.
If you want to go full melee, just click on the Nightshade button at char creation.

AP isn't worth the investment imo. Aug con 5 for it.. eh...
Rather go tireless1, lw1, aug dex 3, dodger1, purge, then work towards IP

Dodger with a Pierce Ranger (as most will be) will be excellent.

If anyone is serious about playing a Melee Ranger, they need to have the side stun practiced well. While an evade stun is nice (I mentioned it in the above response) an at-will stun in the right hands is devastating or life-saving.

That's exactly my point. There is no PD or SoM here.

It could be worth trying in a group, but I doubt until about RR7.

You can rock the Melee Ranger in OF

Preferred rr5+ AP,FA,Purge,IP

High PF, Weapon, decent CD

Self Buffs, Stuns, Bow to assist when needed
