What do + Envenom items do for you ?

Say I have a base envenom skill of 25 and I have items that give me +5 envenom. Composite envenom 30. I have found ONLY poisons level 25 and below will proc for me. QUESTION-----> what do items that raise your composite envenom actually do ? Make your 25 level poisons more effective ? WHAT DO THEY DO ?
If I have a character level 50 and have a composite envenom of 50 (35 base + 15 on items). What level of poisons can I use ?
I really would appreciate someone spelling this out.

It lets you use a higher level of poison.

For instance:

35 + 15 envenom

allows you to use lvl 50 poisons because your 'effective' envenom level is 50. This allows you to spend less points on poison and bump up your other spec lines.

If you're noticing that the composite level poisons are not activating, I'd report that as a bug. I've seen my shadowblade's poisons activate for poisons that are higher than my base spec. i.e. level 45 DoT poison activating when my base spec is 39+8 envenom.

I thought that was the case......but. I am an NS 25 base envenom, +5 envenom from items. Composite 30 envenom. I bought 30 level poison and put it on my weapons. IT WON'T PROC. I get a message that i don't have the power to actuate this skill. Soooooo..are things just bugged ?
I can get bought 25 level poisons to proc. Any other thoughts ?

You can't use procs higher than ur level.

you can be 25+5 at 30 but you can't be 25+5 at lvl 25 and try and use lvl 30

Thank you. So...my characters level determines all. I can use nothing over my level but i can spec lover and still get poisons to my characters level with plus items

I think is not the procs on weapons, few days ago in a patch they changed the poisons and now it seems you cant use poisons higher than your level.

In my 30s I was 29+6 using lv35 poison , got into a group and got to 40 didn't play for a day and yesterday I tried using a lv45 (39+6) and got the same message "my character not powerful enough to use the spell" (it's not the weapons they were blue) so I got the lv40 poison and boom it worked.

So yeah i would say bummer for leveling stealthers as the higher lv poison was big help especially some kill tasks that had ojs.

I have not seen a patch note about it.

It's not that they don't proc. They aren't even placed on weapons. Though it's the same result.

Actually I stand corrected.

Based on testing you CAN use poison above ur level. 25+5 should be able to use lvl 30 poison

I was using lvl 10 at 8+2
