Settings won't save

Just as the title says. Any changes I make to game settings while in the character select screen will not save, including resolution or UI skin changes.

It's preventing me from changing my resolution or using a custom UI (along with not being able to change ANYTHING else). It's been an issue for about five months now per a reddit post with users stating the same, and the only solutions offered there do not work (There is no user.dat file in my DAoC folder).

EDIT- And after trying to reinstall, the phoenix.exe now won't extract into the game folder, saying access is denied. When I first extracted it into this new install, my antivirus pinged it as malware. It seems that has somehow completely destroyed my ability to copy the .exe into the folder, even after I've restored/removed it from my antivirus quarantine list. Oh wells, not looking good here.

Sometimes windows does not like programs to make changes to your computer in certain folder locations. Can you try creating a new folder on your C: drive and installing the game there? Make something like c:\games and use that as the top level install directory for daoc.

I solved all the conflicts problems moving the daoc folder to desktop instead of c\d\ ecc. And rememer to close the game with exit buttom and not alt+f4 to save personalized things.
