Occasional events where border keep guards are weakened or disabled would probably be a lot of fun.

You’re a casual player who doesn’t have often to play. It’s the weekend, your wife has taken the kids to their grandparents. You finally log into your level 32 Fire Wizard after an entire week of not being able to play. “What fun this is going to be,” you think to yourself, “I can finally get some levels in my favorite zone, Lyonesse!”
You watch the loading screen with anticipation... the bar finally reaches the end, and the Cotswold music begins to play. Swap! Your charcter disappears briefly before going through a death animation. Before you stands a Raven Ardent Lurikeen Nightshade spamming /rofl and /Monty. A sad looking grey box with unformatted text pops up slightly off-center on your screen.
It reads: “realm invasion event this weekend”
As you stand up to go mow the lawn a single tear rolls down your cheek.

I support DAOC in it having multiple modes of gameplay that cater to all sorts of people, including the PvE-only people (no matter how baffled I am that they find it fun). Forcing RvR onto them while they are in normally PvE-only zones tramples all over that. It could result in people quitting or simply not playing the game for the duration of the event, which is the direct opposite of an event's purpose.

There's still SI zones.
