It’s time to Increase number of chants that can be turned on

I would like to propose a few options to make group minstrels more enticing to play and thus alb pugs less toxic to build:

1) minstrel change only - allow 2 chants to run at a time - only allow X number of pet charm casts per second
2) minstrel/skald/bard - allow 2 chants to run when not in combat
3) minstrel/skald/bard - allow 2 chants to be run all the time

I just can’t fathom with all the QoL improvements in this game minstrels haven’t been made less toxic to play, hell how many have been banned for setting up macros cuz this very mechanic is toxic and 100% necessary done when in a 8man or small man.


Any other suggestions welcome, but I implore you to do SOMETHING

What about the poor Paladins? its problematic tho..cos minstrels and bards needs to twist they are just too good to have that sorted on easy mode for them,skalds are relatively fine as they are,well lacking pow regen...but paladins even with more points and bumped dmg table..they hit like a pool noodle..they need the dmg add on every hit and the in combat heal is static and very low..nothing seems to up the heal amount..so in their case i could advocate just letting em have af,heal and dmg add as a buff,resists stay as chants...but then for group play..they kinda still need to be activated chants..cos everyone running with 28 extra in combat health regen,more af and dmg add would be too nice.so tricky. but hell yea the manual twisting is lame as heck. im gonna retry playing them after i get programmable mouse and try the AHK still lame the extra's needed to play a base class.

Actually in beta I made a paladin with healing effectiveness RA and Wild healing.. Both worked on the heal chant and he was impossible to be killed 1 vs 1 in melee... I had zerker beating on me for 10 minutes.. Ofc those RA work on heal procs and healing pots, makes for an incredible tank

It's not hard to set up a macro and press 1 button every 8seconds (phoenix legal). People can still play minst now without it, but they choose not to. 90% of people playing daoc just suck and can't play minst/bard...it's the way the game has always been. They have to stick to their easy mode scrub classes that just /stick+melee and tunnel 1 target. Lowering the skill cap to twist a pet and you just get more people running around with a red pet 24/7 on arguably the most OP class in the game.

its not that people couldnt twist but who wants to play like that all the time twisting every 5secs or you and your grp lose speed if you fuck up, they could just give minstrel the perma charm from live and they wouldnt be that weak 1vs1 but alb surely doesnt really need more pets in their 8vs8 fights.
I checked that with charms in beta and decided to play skald because of it, I used to play minstrel a lot since they implemented 2 chants for them on live, its just conviennce really but I can see that minstrels with red pets would be solo gods even without buffs for the pet, I couldnt run arround on any visible solo class anymore if I dont play alb because of that. And that twisting and that you have to have your pet in target all the time is a huge inconviennce you always have to make sure to cancel any chants when you mezz or recharm immediatly or the pet will go after you thats just not fun to play. Sure its doable but no fun in the long run.

It wouldn't change handling a pet in a fight much, just carrying one around between them which is doable with a macro. It's still pointless and annoying.

In fact one of the options doesn’t change the skill level (or cap) of minstrel at all... what it allows one to do is take quick Afks or type to someone while roaming and not lose speed or pet.


To ardri’s comment about bard, bards would be in exact same predicament if everyone didn’t Get end 3 pots and Lw/tireless... imagine how many less nerds there would be.

It’s just not fun to spam two keys on repeat for long durations and has can be implemented to have no impact while actually in combat. This isn’t a skill cap question, doesn’t have to be anyway.


My own personal opinion would be for minstrels to gain two chants at the cost of every being able to charm a red pet, cuz I think buffed red pets is stupid AF and I play alb :/

Buffs have been nerfed on NPCs here by an enormous amount.
