Battlegrounds for all levels

Hey!

First I would like to thank the staff for keeping the server fresh, it's very nice to come back to DAOC after so many years and feel the same excitement than when the game started.

My suggestion: I think it would be amazing to add battlegrounds to all levels, starting at 1, so people would have the chance to jump straight to RvR and level this way instead of having to rely on exp groups which are hard to get if you don't fit the meta of your realm.

Proving grounds lvl 1-4
Lions den lvl 5-9
Hills of claret lvl 10-14
Killaloe lvl 15-19
Thidranki lvl 20-24
Braemar lvl 25-29
Wilton lvl 30-34
Molvik lvl 35-39
Leirvik 40-44
Cathal Valley 45-49

RvR tasks could be enabled in these battlegrounds as well as egg drop from players.

So what do you guys think about this idea ?

I'm gonna lean towards no but I might be willing to accept it if they also disable /xp off. Reason being that it might reduce the numbers of lowbies in the frontier

BGs shouldn't be a permanent thing imo.

the problem is that the current battlegrounds are already deserted...

If they were buzzing hubs of succes, i could see more being implemented, in the current state though i don't think the work is worth being done, just to have them empty 99% of the time anyways

And the really low-level BGs also don't make sense either way. You are level5 so fast on any char. Going to PvP in those levels wouldn't attract anyone after the initial novelty

Yes, you can level pretty fast in this server but I don't see how giving players the option to level entirely by RvR can be a bad thing.

Because it is not a simple switch to flip for the staff to implement them, it costs time/work. Opportunity costs are real costs.


You also wouldn't really get a chance to level through PvP. How many lvl1 chars will actually go there and try to fight a lvl4char? The powerlevel difference is FAR too big and you have no tools at all to outplay someone.
Let alone the equip differences between a lvl1 an a lvl4.

Similar applies to the 5-9BG.

The higher you go up the weaker the effect of leveldifferences becomes and the greater the effect of tools to outplay an enemy becomes.

The best way to level DAoC ever offered was level in Battlegrounds.
Mob kill tasks, Enemy Player kill tasks, Keep raids tasks and all BGs were full! We used to raom in BGs, had lot of fun on 1 vs 1, smal vs small, 8 vs 8 and killed by lower activity some mobs. That was really funny way to rich lvl 50! Additional - the bosses in bgs with good ROGs and weapon and armor drops from Keep Lords and NPCs in each BG.

Bonus system of leveling on Phoenix still the same boring grind for hours, days and weeks most people hated from very beginning!

There's a few problems with this.

Currently, due to the RvR task changes and the RP cap, no one uses the battlegrounds, period. So adding more isn't really going to help.

Assuming they reconfigured the reward system to make the battlegrounds an appealing place to go again, I think having them available at every level would spread the population out too much. I think for server health reasons its important that there are people out in the world, grouping in the PvE zones as well as the RvR ones.

I like the BGs the way they are now because they're a break from the leveling, and a chance to test your PvP skills once you've gotten some actual abilities and gear.

But again, it's all moot at the moment, because the Task changes killed the battlegrounds
