Armsman help

Good day, I would prefer to have input from a veteran armsman, but I will accept all input 😀

Has anyone tried both a hybrid pole spec(50 pole, 42 shield, 39 weapon) and a sword n board (50 slash, 42 shield, 41 parry)? And what are your thoughts?

I personally find the polearm damage isn’t significant, at least maybe not enough to give up the massive defence of 42 shield, 41 parry. I do love to rvr which I know polearms anytime snare is handy, but is it a must have? I prefer to protect the cleric than charge in and leave my healers open to attack, so staying nearby with guard/intercept on 100% of the time seems like the better choice.

Any thoughts? Is it just because slash isn’t very effective vs the Midgard chainies? I hit a healer with phalanx for 175(-115) and i cried...toddlers hit harder than that.

I'd only invest that much Parry if I was planning on soloing (or PVE).

As a DPS melee, I'm mostly going to ignore heavy tanks. My targets will be squishy.

By the time I get to the heavy tanks, their group is all but wiped out.

So that extra Parry will help you delay your inevitable death by a few seconds. Not turn the tide.

Armsman are arguably the best peelers in the game. Play to your strengths.

Yeah the anytime share would be hard to give up. Any idea what the fastest speed polearm in the game is?

Just get used to switching between s/s and pole...the traditional spec with 50 pole, slam, and comp DMG type is always a solid choice.

Don't worry about a random low hit...maybe you were debuffed...who knows...pole is much better DMG and utility than any other weapon an arms can weild....and you can always instantly switch to s/s with a keystroke to guard or slam.

without any dmg RAs and a 5.7 crafted pole my highlander armsman hits for around 320-400 dmg on mid chain, iirc, didn't feel like no damage

Polearm has better snares, Arms is not DPS they are a peeler first of all.

Polearm will hit like a truck if your target is hitting you with weapon styles.

Otherwise 2h has the better positionals for damage and the 6.0 weapon.

Pole has the anytime snare which is nice with a fast pole for peeling.
