Modifying Starting Stats - Unable to Save Changes / Crashing to Desktop

Just noticed that the starting stats for a Thane is 10 Str, Con and Pie, which as a caster spec at level 38 isn't much use. I appear not be able to change this. There must be a few people that didn't realize you couldn't change it one created, as you can on live. I'd be a little annoyed if I have to bin or restart this character because my base dex (on an already slow cast speed) is 55. Please can editing starting stats be considered or patched in, as everything else is on point (e.g. respecs / training on the fly).

Please don't let this be locked down, as that's a lot of time invested and having just found out I have Str and Con, which I don't need, i'm pretty disappointed. I can't be the only one who made this mistake or didn't know the limitations, compared to live. It also crashes when you save and log in.

You can change your starting stats by simply clicking the change stats button on character creation. I change mine all the time.
Sat 2 Feb 2019 1:02 AM by Auberne
But they reset back to what they were at creation each time you log in no? I was told this wasn't possible.

Honestly I never thought to look so I don't know.

I know I changed them when I made the toon and figured it would save them when I click create.

When you try and edit your starting stats (Customize > Attributes > Reset), you crash to desktop every single time you save them. Three times in a row now when you try and enter the game on that character. Surely that can;t be normal or by design. When I leave them alone, it lets me play. Can we consider allowing this change. This is a great sever and the QOL changes have made this a huge hit, but this just takes the shine off it, especially as I have a 38 and a 50 that are definitely wrong or that you may wish to change as you change spec at 50.

My computer has never crashed. When I changed them it worked just fine.

Are you sure the race/class combo is allowed? I know trying to make an invalid combo can crash the system.

It's a 38 Thane, not a new toon, so it's not a race/class combo. It just doesn't work. I can reset and change the stats at the login screen but it crashes to desktop when I click play. When I load up the client again, they are back to the old stats and I can log in ok (so long as I don;t change them). Really frustrating. I was going to play him to 50, but I just can't bring myself to do it, considering I would have put 15 into dex as I have on live had I not forgotten to change it at creation.

Here as far as I know you can only change them upon character creation but a toon already made.

Caught in two minds here. Either I delete and re-roll, making up the time over the next few weeks, or wait to see if this ever gets patched. If we could get clarification that this was going to get fixed, then I could make a decision. Just don't want to delete and re-roll, for it to be sorted in the next few days. If the answer is no and never, then at least I know and so does everyone else who is in the same boat. Equally, if its on the road-map of fixes and QOL changes, then I can wait it out and play something else in the mean time. Not knowing is worse.

I too am stuck in this boat, not gonna reroll so guess I'm done here. Was fun though I just forgot to change my stats on creation, my bad I guess.

When you temp the 5-10 stat points at creation aren't going to matter

I t does matter to me,. It's a QoL feature and I really can't see why it's been disabled. I'ts not game breaking or anything but it is what it is.

Yeah sorry but if dev's added EVERY QoL that EVERYONE in the game wants they wouldn't have time for the game.

This is the least important thing that matters especially since temped will max it all anyway.

Well in my case its 15 points of dex. Considering you can re-spec as much as you want from 1-49, but are unable to change your starting stats, it just doesn't make sense unless its broken. Some specs (e.g. hybrid vs caster on the same class) do warrant adjusting stats over others. Not trying to start a debate of if this is needed or not. I'd just like a definitive answer, so I can get on with leveling.

PS. I registered this as a bug and a dev has assigned it in the tracker. It;'s definitely not right.

Once a character is made, you can't go back to change the starting stats. Won't work. If it means that much to change them, you have to create a new character.

If the game is crashing to desktop when you create a new character, then run the game executable as Administrator. The changes may not be saving because permissions may not allow it the character data to be saved to the game folder and then you're kicked to desktop because the game couldn't complete the save.

If the game is continuing to give you problems, run the executable in compatibility mode for Windows 7 if you are using Win8/10. New versions of Windows don't get along well with old games and their libraries.

Thanks. The crashing and re-specs are two loosely connected issues. It's nothing to do with creating new toons, as I mentioned.

I would like to see this implemented as well -especially for changing your face/looks. It's a major QoL that doesn't hurt the gameplay. Half the fun of these games is customizing/tweaking things the way you like. I'm sure it's not urgent, but it would be great to know it's on the horizon. I've quit characters in Uth2 because of reasons the OP mentioned - just from a silly mistake. Yes you should pay attention, but it shouldn't be the end of the world. It's cool to be able to adjust your hair color, etc to suit your guild colors, etc. I mean, we have a reskin merchant, no reason not to do customize.

Up, same for me the changes in Adjust Attributes don't apply once logged in. It is not very clear if this is a bug, or just that they can't be changed after the character creation step. Any guess?

It is no bug.
It's simply not implemented.

Yes I believe you're right, I just wish to know if it will ever be implemented or not, since I have a 15lvl pc I need to know if I should reroll now, or if I could keep it and hope that one day it will be possible to respec also the attributes.

Well, hoping for it "one day" is something you can believe in.
It's a "nice to have" feature, thus pretty low priority.
