New to 50

'ello!
I'm about to hit 50 on my Norse Thane.
I'm completely lost on next steps. I know to do the necklace quest and I know I should be aiming to start templating and I know I should do anything I can to get phoenix feathers, but I'm lost on how to maximize those (especially templating).

Is TG raid the only way to get feathers?
Is there a site with recommended templates? Any soft/hard caps I should be aiming for?

I'll be honest in that I expect to mainly have to PUG as I struggle to time commit to dedicated 8mans.

I've also been struggling with the idea of maintaining my thane or switching to skald (i was about to fully commit to skald until I realized there's no power song).

I'll happily take any advice or links that might be available.

I'm not on mid but TG is probably the fastest way to get feathers and you need to go through and kill the bosses for credit before you can even buy anything from the vendors so try to get on a couple of those raids. For templating no one can really recommend much to you besides a few pieces (probably from TG like chest if it is similar to Hib) due to the ROG system here. Your best bet is to download Loki 1.4, get the SI neck, set the stats to what you need and try to get all 50+ utility cloak/rings/bracers/belt. Some classes need higher utility to be able to cap stats and resists than others.

On the front of unsure about sticking with the Thane I would suggest maybe holding off on spending money on temping (unless you don't mind farming more money later), get out in some pugs and get a better feel for the Thane. You'll die a lot being not temped and lower RR but should still be able to get a general feel for the class.

Is the only way (besides chat spamming) to sell items is to buy a home? Can I list items for sale without buying a home? If necessary, what is the cheapest I can get into and maintain a home?

I generally don't care for housing, but obviously being able to sell things would be nice.

the only way is with a house.

the cheapest plots cost 300g.
Then you need the cheapest house 1p
also a porch 500g
and a merchant 1p

The house costs 50g a week, and you can store up to 4weeks rent in the lockbox (which i recommend)

Total= 3plat to set up and pay rent for 4weeks

PS: you will proibably also want at least the teleporter NPC in your house to get away again, that will be another 100g (iirr)

1. Thane is expensive maxing out - you need money: Moderna Farming group 2plat/hr + ROGs; Farmgroups @Redcaps love Thanes with Shield
2. TG Run Mo-Fr 19.30 - 20.30 nets you 10k+ feathers every weekday
3. Look for cheap MP chain parts beside TG vest
4. Get Metalworking up to 1100 for best effort of farming groups @ redcaps (Moderna)
5. Get TG hauberk and SI Necklace.
6. Aim for 70+ ROGs in order to give you a good chance on fitting in some jewelry from vendors.

Your housenumber is important if you don't want to undercut permanently.
The market is filled with items not being sold.
If you appear on page 1 you sell even more expensive than someone on page 4+
Forget housing for the moment(!) if you are not heavily interested in HZ's economy.

I haven't tried it yet, but this was posted recently....

https://forum.playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6565

May be worth a look since it has been built specifically for Phoneix it may not include a load of the conusing non-phoneix stuff that other spell crafting calculators / template designers have in them by default. (ToA bonuses etc).

It will guide you through templating, resists, caps on stats, etc.

Thank you for the replies. Some of it went over my head though.

2. TG Run Mo-Fr 19.30 - 20.30 nets you 10k+ feathers every weekday
What time zone is this referencing?

3. Look for cheap MP chain parts beside TG vest
MP = ?

4. Get Metalworking up to 1100 for best effort of farming groups @ redcaps (Moderna)
Why? Salvage?

6. Aim for 70+ ROGs in order to give you a good chance on fitting in some jewelry from vendors.
70+ meaning utility, yes?

Durgrim, thanks for the tip on house number. I had no idea about it. I probably would have been led to frustration.

Sepplord, thank you for breaking down the entrance fees of housing - I likely would have spent hte 300g and felt dumb when I needed another 1p, then another.. then another... you saved me from some fairly significant grief.

Hey =)
TG raid gives me average 12k feathers.
Regarding other ways to farm feathers : http://playphoenix.wiki/phoenix-feather-system/phoenix-feather-mobs/
For my part, i do TG runs TH runs and shredders in df.
MP = master piece > 100% quality
Normally 850 metalwork/cloth/wood allows u to salv without losts, think he meant 1100 so u can also craft your sc parts ? Also note that the craft system as specific QoL added on phoenix : http://playphoenix.wiki/crafting-changes/
70+ utility yes, as thane as sbs need real high utility rogs in order to make a decent capped/nearly capped template.

Edit : regarding salvage again, rogs are salvaging for lesser mats as 'regular' loot table drops (mobs having their own loot table generally red/purple con to 50), thats why i wrote 850 as i didn't notice -might be mistaken tho, not 100% sure- any difference between my salvages as i was still lvling my AC and now that i'm LGM. Best bet would be to lvl tailor ac wc to 400 first (the cost to do this is unsignificant), as the secondary works are not limited by mainskill = they can cap if they're common to 2 different craft specs (by 1300) ;-)

my 2ct
house rent can be payed with bounty points. you'll have a lot to spend of those.
IMO a house is mandatory for anyone who farms even just a little. if you don't have a house, you'll run out of space fast as you can't up anything to sell. farming at 50 you'll find a lot of items which you don't just want to vendor and selling 50 utils ROG on trade channel is not feasible.

you have chosen the hardest class to template: 5 stats and 4 skills to max, wearing chain (which is very expensive on MP). it's at least worth considering to start RVR (at the beginning mostly only zerging anyway) with a 99% template and get something better later if you feel that you need it (which isn't even a given).

Thank you, lev. I appreciate that breakdown.
I'm groaning in fear of tenplating now lol.

With lower than 1100ish metalworking people will routinely get fewer bars than with the higher metalworking.
On rogs this equates to getting 2 bars instead of 3 bars.
Thu 14 Mar 2019 6:06 PM by PepTalk
Do you sell the bars on market, or save for your own crafting?

The salvage skills allow you to make "trinkets" with the bars that you then vendor. It can be pretty good income!

Making trinkets (like hinges or brackets) will return about 98% of the value of the bars to you in cash.
Selling the bars directly you get a much lesser amount.

I had the feeling i had 3 bars all the way up (from 850) with Goa, but maybe it was because i was still lvling at that time (means salvaging stuff for my lvl asterite, netherium etc). I will try to keep an eye on this with my new toon to see if i get 3 bars arca by 850 or only 2.
