Hi Miiro! I think most people here will say that matter is the way to go for solo leveling. As a solo, you can play the time-honored game of dot-and-kite and mass kill entire camps for fast leveling. If you feel so inclined, you can also grab a group with a cleric and do focus-pulling which is just as fast killing, but without so much cardio. I'm going to buck the trend, though, and advocate for spirit for a solo cabbie. Sure you won't be able to kill as fast, but your pet will be a true tank! Having a durable, hard-hitting pet will enable you to get into places you wouldn't ordinarily be able to go as a matter cab (into dungeons, for example).
Respecs are free until 50 (or RR3L0) so experiment and find the playstyle that fits you the best!
If by ‘best’ you mean ‘fastest’ then yes matter spec is fastest.
1. Summon Amber Pet (make sure you buff dex and dex/qui if you have any spare points in spirit). 2. Put pet on passive and send into a camp of mobs to gather them all up. (Use passive and ‘go to target’ and the pet can go further into camp than using ‘attack’ as distance is calculated from pet not caster this way) 3. Cast Dmg Shield on pet as soon as you send it into camp. 4. Allow the mobs to kill the pet (meaning the dmg shield will do max possible damage). 5. Cast AoE DoT spell twice (because some will resist first dot). - If you are at max range you will have enough time to do this. 6. As the mobs get close to you, turn and run. (Sprint). 7. Allow the DoT to tick 4 times whilst u run. 8. Then turn and AoE DoT a third/fourth time. This will finish off the mobs. 9. Use pet recycle to get manna up to max again quickly (requires 3 in spirt spec)
Endurance Pots, Tirless and Long Wind are very useful here and should be taken. You get Eggs for each kill when solo giving an additional bonus exp. Tasks (/task personal) are easy to complete since you can kill many at a time, so swap between mob types.
It takes a bit of practice and you may occasionally get insta killed if you mis-judge the distances but shouldn’t happen to often.
Check the crafting forum for the salvage guide and get your salvage spec up high as quickly as possible (400g and a few hours to max it out). You will get a lot of loot/cash this way. Take a vault merchant summon stone so that you can put salvage / RoGs into vaults when needed.
You should be able to take on very large number of orange con mobs this way without risk and very fast lvling speeds.
Spirit is viable and you will level easily with low risk and certainly great for particular circumstances (dungeons, etc) but wouldn’t be anywhere near as fast. If you want some demo / advice in game send me a PM here and ill get my cabby out to show you how its done.
Thank you for the responses. I may experiment with both and see which is more comfortable for me personally. They both seem to have their benefits depending on playstyle which is nice.
Speccing spirit on a Cabby seems significantly slower. It's a bit like a Sorc then if you go Spirit. You'll be able to buff your pet, unlike a Sorc, but a sorc can get a world mob that matches its own level, and potentially has buffs/heals of its own that it'll also put on you.
If I was going to go Cabby, it would be matter all the way.
