Hello there.
I would like to give my point of view on the RvR Task system that in my opinion is really a good asset to make RvR more various and less stale/repetitive.
But I would love to also make it more meaningful and inclusive for other playstyles that strive to have fun in there.. which would further more achieve one of the main reason they exists: Get as many players as possible to take part in rvr.
I'm gonna list down my thoughts/suggestions with number lists so that they can be addressed also by number in the comments below.
General changes (overall improvements):
> Invasion teleporter should use Keeps as port destination: it would give more meaning for holding a keep in an enemy territory, it would make more sense since you wont appear in the middle of the field from nowhere, and its availability should be tied to the in combat status of the Keep Doors and Keep Lord - encouraging further more the siege action around them - you could also remove or lower the delay (60s) after release since it would port you in a less accessible area (lord room).
At this point, you could make the rotation of the Domination objective among all invaded realm zones (and no only the middle zone - since it wouldn't be tied to the teleport system anymore)
> Enemy kill task credits: I believe that credits for kills tasks should be given only if you actively participated on taking down the died enemy, and not just "touched" him with 1 damage. This simplistic mechanic makes everyone play as a "braindead leecher" to get the task done, instead of making them properly think on what they're actually doing/fighting to (I.e: I often happen to CC lots of people and everyone just aoe to leech, or avoid assisting down closer target cause "they must touch the next guy" - and so on). Don't take me wrong, I do too like to see the counter of the kill task increase for each enemy i touch.. but I feel like that at some point this "way of play" it's gonna get annoying and stale for lots of people, since it kinda ruins the synergy of the battle.
> Zerg task with meaning: The only zerg fight I personally like to be part of is when there is a specific objective and everyone plays -together- to achieve it (i.e. Relic, Keep siege). I believe that a really nice task that would embrace such behavior would be the "Mini-Relic Task"!
Basically, you could re-use the labyrith mini-relic models to spawn such relics in the invaded realm middle zone, those relics needs to:
- Be discovered and brought to the realm teleport/boder keep before the other realms.
- It should require 5 second cast (interruptable) to pick them up
- Once picked up it will enlighten the relic carrier with a light visible from far
- The carrier can't have speed buffs (only sprint)
- There should be displayed in the /task panel where the relic have been "last spotted" by someone of your realm (i.e.: Near Dun Nged, Near Dodens, Near Green Knight)
- Depending on the spawned mini-relic type (i remember there are different models right?) there could be a different side effect that would force the carrier to drop it at some point (sort of exhaustion...) in order to let more people carry it during it's way to home (and give more chance to the attacker to steal it!)
Solo & Smallman & 8Man: are you still there?
> Add Personal/Group Tasks: other than the more wide realm task, there should be a personal (if solo - this would also give a reason to be out solo! *winks at stealthers*) or group task, that could be given by a special king guard at each border keep (or portal keep) with a more smaller objective that would fit the group size. I believe that if implemented right, and with some smart mechanism it could also help on balancing the rvr population across all zones and give a little more virtual space for other playstyles such as solo/smallman/8man.
By makingthem "smart" I mean:
- Make it so that it should pick a different zone than the current invasion task and equally split the people of each realm by handing out the task destination accordingly
- It could be tuned so that it could also hand to all solos a task in a particular zone, while to smallmans another zone, and to 8man another zone: this would give a hint for people interested in such kind of action where they could find other peopleinterested in the same thing - while still maintaining the open world spirit.
- Task types could be plenty: Kill enemies, Capture/Defend the Keep, Take X bases, Gather X supplies, Defend/Attack the Caravan, Find the Treasure/Chest, etc...
> Tournament System: I've seen those NPC's which are marked as Arena registers, so I'm wondering if there is also the system behind them, or if they're just a tease/placeholder?
I believe that tournaments of various groupsize could efficently cover this specific issue in one shot - even if it might look like a radical change/add-on to the rvr panorama.
- It could be based on a incremental reward system based on winning streak amount and partecipation amount
- It could include special titles (Gladiator, anyone?) and herald charts reaching some achievements (break down for each tier: 2v2,3v3,5v5,8v8) like: X Victories, X Victories in a streak, etc.
- It could implement a matchmaking system to better balance the fights based on RR & Victories in order to give a shot to less experienced players to test and improve their skill and sinergy with friends.
- It could also be implemented with 3 way fights and not just 2 (optionally).
- It could be enabled only during primetime (both EU and NA) or based on population amount.
- It could only award BPs and Money from kills (maybe rps only for tasks to incentivate joining) - (hint by rubaduck)
Lastly, I want to assure that I am not against the zerg nor i'm trying to make other playstyles prevail, but I really feel "out of place" when I play in the invasion realm frontier for more than a hour since of the continuous zerging (both sides, winning or losing doesn't matter at some point).
I would love to find (and establish) a place with a competition of my same kind (which could be either Solo, Smallman, or 8man) - And with me there are plenty of people that would love to.
Now that you had read what I wrote, If you don't mind to answer by writing down, I made a simple Poll to quickly express your opinion here:
