Stuttering

Hi

I reformatted my PC yesterday, and after logging in again I noticed an unusual amount of large and small stuttering.

I've tried other a lot more demanding games, without seeing any issue at all. DAoC is installed on an SSD

I've tried with and without GSYNC enabled. When playing the game in exclusive fullscreen (as opposed to Windowed Fullscreen as I normally do) it feels slightly better, but I still see some stuttering.

Could I be missing some drivers or runtimes? I installed the ones referenced in this post https://forum.playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=5468&p=35653&hilit=microsoft+.net#p35653

All my own drivers er up to date.

PC Specs:
ASUS X99 ROG STRIX
Intel i7-5820k
16GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM
RTX 2080ti ROG STRIX

Exclude the DAoC folder from any real-time scanning of your installed AV-software (including Windows Defender):
https://forum.playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?p=35658#p35658

DAoC is loading lots of data while moving and usually micro-stuttering is caused by AV-software scanning each file the client is loading.

I would also check to make sure your monitor is set at the proper Mhz.

There is also an issue with mouse dpi settings. Too high will cause micro freezes. Newer games dont have an issue with it and if you play FPS games it's likely set too high for an old game like daoc.

I get stutters in all games when running a fullscreen video/stream on my second or third screen. It's really rather annoying.

Did some research before and it seems to be a Windows 8 and 10 issue, not much to do about it.

I just tried excluding my DAoC folder and turning off Windows Defencer Antivirus completely, still the same result.

My monitor is running at 120hz.

My mouse is using 1000 DPI and 1000 Polling rate.

I wouldn't even call it micro-stuttering, though it might be the correct term. It's rather large stutters upwards of around half a second time, sometimes several.

Again, the problem wasn't there prior to reformatting, and I just did another reformat today incase I missed any drivers.

I tried "benchmarking" with Resident Evil 2 and Far Cry 5 and experience no stuttering here.

Most of the time this is caused by multi monitor setups with different refresh rates. I had this even with WIndows 7. It was so annoying that I stopped using multi monitor setups until I upgraded my second and third monitor to 144hz monitors.

Now its gone.

Guess that's what you get for buying a nice $600 monitor.

I'm still having massive issues.

This is a quick test I did with MSI Afterburner.

The long test is DAoC, basicly just running from Snowdonia to Hadrians, with massive FPS drops regularly as well as frametime all over the place.

The short test was Resident Evil 2 Remake, and once it finished loading there was no FPS drops or issues with frametime.

Both games are installed on the same SSD.

I tried with Anthem quickly last night, and did experience some frametime issues here. Will post result later.

When you are running straight, without any other movement including touching your mouse does this issue happen? If so is it during clip range loading? Does it happen while standing still?

Try and check your computers power saver settings. Make sure it is set to performance and not custom or power saving. The reason being is that newer games utilize more cores. So even on lower power settings (yes on desktops) it can run newer games better because daoc only utilizes one core. And if you're running a power saving option, running even an old game on 1 core that is being throttled by power consumption will make it run like crap.

Power saving is turned off everywhere I could find, I'm pretty sure. Will double check when I get home.

The stutters seem to happen everywhere and at all times. It sometimes happens when I'm just standing still or running straight, also sometimes when moving the mouse or panning. I haven't thoroughly tested while looking straight into a wall yet, but I do remember trying shortly and didn't notice any drops, will test with monitor later.

After I tested on the run from Snow to HW, I also did a small run in Odin's which didn't seem as bad as Alb. Both realms were the active task zone at the time.

The MSI screenshot clearly shows, that the FPS are capped at 30 in DAoC.

Go into your Nvidia settings and reset the whole thing to default, or select a "clean install" when reinstalling the driver so all settings are wiped.
Something's wrong there.

You're looking at the wrong graph, that's GPU usage :-)

Framerate is the one below, ranging from 125 (capped cause of GSYNC i think) down to 30 during spikes while ingame (it shows 0 because of logging out)

Had (what I believe to be) this same issue after upgrading my GPU (was previously ATI(amd), new card was nVidia)

Edit: Solution Found
----------------------------------------------------
Cause of issue: Nvidia having issues with dual monitor setups running at different refresh rates (144hz and 60hz in my case)

Situational Solution: Depending on your motherboard and if your CPU has an IGP, you may be able to plug your secondary monitor into your motherboard, and run it independently from your graphics card by enabling IGD in BIOS.

I'll try disconnecting my secondary monitor when I got home. I already tried matching the refreshrate among the two though, to no avail. The secondary monitor is 144hz and i dumped it 120hz (like the primary one) to test.

Yeah, I had also attempted the same thing, and had no luck with it. Did a lot of tinkering around and couldn't find anything that worked until I started running my secondary monitor off of my CPU. That did the trick.

Will have to try that when I get home, I just find it odd that I don't see the same problem in other games, at least not even close to the same extent.

In my case, I had noticed it in other games, though not to the extent as in DAoC (was unplayable, inputs were lost in the hiccups so RvR would've been impossible). In other games, it was most noticeable if were doing something on the secondary monitor as well, like playing a youtube video. In DAoC however it was constant, regardless of what (if anything) was on my secondary monitor.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I feel like an idiot for not trying that already. I usually disable all user accounts on the PC and only use the built in administrator account. Will try admin mode and report back

Running Phoenix.exe as administrator fixed the huge FPS drops. So many frustrations wasted over so small a fix, wow ... And if I only i did as I usually do, by using the built in administrator in Windows I'd never have seen this issue. Now the game is playable again.

Now ... I have micro stuttering Small frametime spikes which cause small micro stutters occasionally. The problem is noticable in other games too, like Far Cry 5, Battlefield 5 and Anthem.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I had micro stuttering too some months ago playing ArcheRage, after I upgraded to a Ryzen 2700x + MSI Board. The game ran worse than on my old hardware because of the stuttering.

During my research, for most people the stuttering was gone after upgrading their BIOS. Turning off some cores of the CPU was also confirmed as a solution. Unfortunately none of that did work on my system. When I unplugged all unnecessary monitors the stuttering was always less, but not gone. The most peaks I noticed during playing netflix/youtube on my second monitor. I just gave up and sent the hardware back, invested a little bit more into a composition of Intel CPU + Asus Board and finally I had smooth gameplay.

If you need input for more solutions, you should google something like "stuttering Intel i7-5820k", "stuttering ASUS X99 ROG STRIX".

Hello everyone!

I have a little problem, and I've always had this Mico laggs the other day.
I also tried a lot with administrator rights to start the game;

Unfortunately, nothing has helped yet. I ask in the round
And maybe you can help me.
