Is there a reason this vanilla DAoC shard is seemingly going in the same direction DAoC live went which caused people to leave? i.e. adding WoW-like features to a game beloved for its non-minigame realm vs realm combat. If the DAoC community is in pretty unanimous agreement that DAoC live lost its way long ago and 'wouldn't it be great if we could play vanilla DAoC again?" [insert Uthgard/Phoenix, etc] But then you shoehorn WoW-like pvp minigames in anyway?
I'd just like to know the intentions of the shard handlers over here before my friends and I dump too much more time getting our guild built up. Thanks.
Uthgard is that way ===>
As you will see from the population on Uthgard, a pure "classic" DAOC of 1.65 with all its flaws does not work. What the devs have going here is FAR more popular. They just need time to tweak things to find the right balance.
Not sure what you are trying to ask without expecting Uthgard as an answer.
Uthgard is literally classic 1.65 DAoC that tons of people were screaming for because they wanted the classical DAoC experience.
Uthgard opened to around what...4k-5k people? Then lost 1k people in the first month and another 500 people by the second month and about 5-6 months in the population was half and falling. People wanted to play vanilla DAoC until they experienced it again and realized how boring it was in every regard. The xp was pathetically slow and the RvR could be frustrating at best. Within 1 month you were either part of the upper echelon and rolling people in RvR, or you were everyone else who were so far behind that you got rolled every time you left your PK.
The desire for a pure vanilla experience was quickly crushed and it left people wanting the RvR experience they remember but they wanted a lot of QoL features they didn't know they wanted. Faster leveling being a big thing, but also a ton of things they didn't even realize they wanted. When I found out about /train in beta I was blown away by such a simple thing. This one little thing has helped keep xp groups together for hours longer than before, helping the socializing part of DAoC and making leveling fun again. Xp bonus for different classes, smaller penalty for groups, no penalty for pets, just TONS of things that seemed ok before, but when you try them here it makes you enjoy everything SO much more.
So instead of wondering why Pheonix might be right for you and for your valuable time you will need to invest, try it! You won't need to invest a whole lot of time to see if you are going to like it. Come do some leveling and then do Thid or Cale with your friends, or skip them like I do and just roll in the RvR tasks and get some easy RP's to help you level. Have you ever wondered how having Tireless/LW/Serenity/MCL/etc will help your leveling? Join us and try!!!
Forget everything about DAoC that you think of and experience the newer better version. Uthgard is a marvelous server that is very stable and very strict to a lot of classical rules, and you might have fun over there. On the other hand, joining the dark side here at Pheonix and become like the thousands that have come around to a new way of life in DAoC, a new enjoyable experience that might make you feel a little guilty for having so much fun, but the guilt will be crushed when you are in a group with 7 others blowing through leveling content but you don't want to tell them you need to spend 30 minutes running back to town to level because you forgot about /train and you almost cry out in joy at seeing your new PBAoE/PoM/AoE stun/Verd Pet/etc available immediately.
Surrender to us and before long you'll be mad at the world for not giving you more valuable time to spend here =)
And come to Mid, we're just better...plus we have the true trolls of the community!
