@ devs.

I understand some debates get heated. But it breeds ill will if you start locking threads of a discussion because a few people are getting abusive.

You lock those out of a discussion that actually would like to participate. I would suggest bans for those that get abusive towards others on the forums.

Afaik, they don't lock threads because some are starting to be abusive. They lock threads because

-they are against the rules

-there are already several discussion about the same topic in the forum

-it's dead horse that has been discussed to death already multiple times, and people are just not looking up the available information

-the discussion is going in circles and no new information is being added for multiple pages

I myself have been notified by a Forum-mod for using profanity (not targetted at someone, but still swear words) and have adapted my wordings accordingly since then. So i can confrim first hand that individual out-of-bonds/abusive posts do not get threads locked and the posters are individually dealt with

Again.

None of the reasons you listed are necessary to lock a forum thread. Apart from against the rules.

Also like to point out this post.

Letting these types of players get to you, only fuels them more. IMO, state your reasons, but the last sentence only hurts the devs. No one else.

I can agree that toxic players should be moderated to keep a healthy discussion going.

Warn them, remove their comments and eventually just ban them. Otherwise you're telling the people who actually want and can contribute that their opinions are just as bad as trolls.

Sounds like Uthgard.

That went well.

I never played Uthgard, did that project fail because they moderated trolls and toxic players? Genuinely curious!

It sure did. They moderated away about 75% of their player base.

You can sure tell this is 2019. Now we are supposed to be happy friendly carebears to everyone.

Here I thought this was a pvp game... Not a snuggle party.

There is a wide range between being a care bear and being an asshat. Try to stay between these two extremes

The thing is however, anyone that disagrees with anyone is instantly dubbed an asshat. It's either join the hivemind or you are suddenly trolling.

15 years ago forums were a place to both discuss and argue your point. These days it's all "everyone agree with everyone, and sit around the fire and sing camp songs" OR ELSE THREAD WILL BE LOCKED!.

That’s not true. Anyone can disagree, it’s how you present yourself and your opinion that matters. Most times people end up attacking others who disagree rather than their points and opinions- and that can lead to locked threads. It’s always in everyone’s benefit to remain respectful and post with intention to discuss the content and not the players posting the content. To many times we fail in this and unsurprisingly it often leads to locked threads.

But why lock it?

The offended parties can just stop reading it, and discussion can move on.

My assumption is that Phoenix staff doesn’t have the time to monitor such things constantly and locking a thread helps end hostilities more efficiently. People tend to remain heated and often can’t distance themselves from a heated argument unless forced. You’d probably need more Phoenix staff dedicated to the forums only to have sufficient monitoring to propose “ejecting” offensive posters and allowing threads to continue on. Maybe Phoenix staff might consider adding more staff for such a job. As it is, be respectful and polite and no threads need to be locked!

This is their forum and they can control it how they want. There are very good reasons to lock threads. They like to be active as possible and actually read their forum for feedback. If they feel a thread isn't being used properly or constructively they have every right to lock it.

They are no nonsense people who I respect. There are too many people that continuously create the same topics or are just dogging on the servers vision. They want real discussion and feedback they can use to make their server better.

If you find a lot of your threads are getting locked or your participation in those threads makes them get locked, you should probably reconsider how you use these forums and try to actually understand what it is to be constructive.

The the world would just utterly end if the thread wasn't locked? Human civilization itself would cease to exist or something?

Cause I'm pretty sure nothing at all would happen if it wasn't locked.

Well said.

There are sections for the forum to just "brainstorm" (let's call it that instead of trolling).

But in certain areas, like suggestions, it's better to just stay on topic and be constructive. Otherwise it's just a waste of time.

I do find it ironic that you blamed the snowflakes for their sensitivity a few posts ago, yet here you are being triggered by literally everything anyone says.

Maybe the problem is somewhere else?

Go to Emain and meditate, try to find peace and balance in your life! <3

It's good fun.

Let me guess you think that topic should be locked now?

I guess sitting here arguing with the troll for an hour would be an example of this too huh?

LOL.

I myself have been notified by a Forum-mod for using profanity (not targetted at someone, but still swear words) and have adapted my wordings accordingly since then. So i can confrim first hand that individual out-of-bonds/abusive posts do not get threads locked and the posters are individually dealt with

This pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. While I personally am pretty lenient in letting the players air their feelings (even if they sometimes get a little heated about it.. but hey! You gotta vent SOMEWHERE!!) each of the mods use their own discretion as to when enough is enough. Individual posts don't get threads locked. I would also add:

- several posters arguing and crossing the line from discussion into a flame war.
