External Market Explorer

As most people would probably agree, searching for the perfect ROG on Housing can be very cumbersome and downright difficult due to the limitations of the current Market Explorer.

If all the housing data was dumped once an hour or so, wouldn't it be possible to make web-tool for searching and a lot more filtering options? Or if an API or something exists, directly look it up.

I'm not sure if this in any way possible, and if it is, whether or not it poses security risks or what not.

Make cornering markets great again !!

seriously though, while i have cursed a lot while searching for ROGs when building a template, wishing for something like that myself, in the long run it benefits the market-players more than the casual and would probably lead to much higher prices on certain items

Housing already benefits the hardcores that got good housingspots to have their fidnings always on the first page over others. No need to exxaggerate these imbalances even further

I don't think your argument makes sense, at least in terms of usability.

You want the market to favor those willing to spend hours in front of the Market Explorers searching for underpriced items, instead of the people selling them actually having a chance to price their things correctly.

Besides, having the ability to sort items regardless of Lot # solves that issue too.

a) Considering the amount of players that never look into the forum or have never even read the rules playing this, i doubt that an external tool to access the market would reach the huge mass of casuals

b) having easy access lets marketgoblins gobble up good deals / high thought after items faster and repost them at higher prices

c) it also allows people to corner specific markets completely, aka buy up all items with +stealth (just an example, i only have basic knowledge about how markets are manipulated in other huge online games)

d) it makes it easier to spot cornerable markets in the first place

I i am certain that if such a thing is available there WILL be people running scripts through the dump, alerting them of various preconfigured items to buy. Playing the markets is a huge hobby of some people. Some don't even play the games, they only play to amass money via marketmanipulations. In the end it boils down to buy low, sell high. I don't think doing that is a despicable action, i have done it myself in other games on a basic level, and lots of work goes into it. BUT it doesn't generate any benefit imo and on average increases prices for everyone.

All that said, i am not heavily opposed to the idea. It has upsides too, i just wanted to mention that it doesn't ONLY have upsides and even if implementing it costs no worktime at all, both the PROs and the CONs need to be evaluated

Hardly. Anyone worried about their purse is going to check all pages to save several hundred golds so being the first on the page is hardly a thing you can put your finger on in saying that it is some huge benefit. People taking 3 more seconds to find a better deal is just going to happen.

Making a good deal, by finding that hidden "gem" is fun for many people.

It would be greatly dminished if people could do it instantly.

Besides, there are many ways to close in on the specific item your template needs.

The amounts of pots being sold for more than the double amount of gold than page3-5 offers paints a completely different picture.

It boggles my mind too (both that people buy the expensive stuff AND that some are crashing the market with prices that are almost belowcrafting costs without taking feathercosts into account) but it is what i see every day i go to my merchant

I've played a lot of EVE Online, and it's off the charts there. People with billions of ISK who can barely fly a ship, and have no need to undock, because they trained market skills and just do trading. You will stop finding deals, because they find them faster. This is guaranteed.

Now, to be fair, that game has a fully functional buying/selling system where you can place orders and adjust, and really maximize trading. Here that would be less of an issue. Still, what you would see is the high prices on page one would start to be the normal prices on all pages. Maybe gold has less worth here, but some people do it just to beat out others, so they wouldn't care if the pile of gold they had amassed was useless. It would only matter that it was bigger than somebody else's.

That economy in EVE is probably the only thing that game has going for it when it comes to improvements in the MMO space. It is something that every MMO should strive for in regards to their economy. A large part of it is the ease at which you can get market data which helps to converge goods to a one price (adjusted for distance/risk/time of trade). The other reason that economy is so good is that most items are destroyable and this prevents inflation over time.
