Will pets go back to taking exp at official release?

Even though the server has built itself around grouping and customizing exp to make it easy, this seems like it will just be way too easy mode and unfair towards non pet classes.

Its not unfair simply because it doesn't matter.

I play a warrior and I know what it will be like leveling. If I want to play a SM I will understand that leveling will be faster because of the pet and PBAOE.

Does it really matter? Just play what you want and stop worrying about whether someone else has an edge in leveling on a server that is already fun to level on and won't take forever no matter the class you play.

You can get to level 30 as an animist in a little over an hour, im sorry but thats dumb

It's not dumb, because once everyone is 50 no one cares about how long it takes you to get to 30... getting to 30 is the most boring part of the game

Why do you care if an ani can lvl fast? Does it cause you pain because a certain class levels faster?

Seriously, just play what you want. The xp rate is very well done here so everyone can level good and enjoy the process plus get to 50 faster.

Stop worrying about other people when they don't impact you.

I keep thinking of trying an Ani just because I know they level fast but went with a Pachealer and Augshaman instead so I can group more. Guess what? I level SLOWWWWWWWWWWW unless grouped, and I could care less.

It never made sense to me that a critical part of a class's design ended up also being a penalty.

If you are going to make a class that relies on a pet for it's base functionality - penalizing them for using it seems foolish. If something seems too fast for pet classes, perhaps it's worth a second look or brainstorming for an alternative idea.

As the others said though, PvE isn't the focus for many people, so how fast it takes somebody to get to lvl 30 isn't a huge concern of mine.

... that said - does it affect balance in any way?

Will the ease of leveling an Animist essentially make it so that everybody has an Animist on Hibernia to summon for a keep defense? Things like that may need to be considered.

I don't know the rates of xp, as I haven't been on the server, but it seems like people aren't thinking this through. It does matter if one class can level significantly faster than another. Sure, some classes will naturally go faster than others, but if there's one class that can get there 10 or 20 times faster, especially a turret spamming class, that could spell trouble in the frontiers.

It doesn't matter so much within Hibernia, but if there are no classes that can level as fast (relatively) in the other realms, and counter Anis in rvr, that's a problem. If animists can get to 50 in a few hours, which class do you think Hibs will make first? Farming classes usually level more quickly, but there has to be disincentive for people who aren't drawn to play that class to decide not to play it. If it's so easy to get to 50 that it only costs a few hours, the majority of hibs will make one, even players who wouldn't have otherwise. That means Hibernia will probably always have animists in keep takes. Fun.

In another thread, the devs said they were worried about opening Beta too soon so that people don't see an unfinished server and think the project wasn't ready and then leave the server forever. 100 animists running around for a week in the frontiers while the other realms are leveling up would be significantly worse.

Just need to make adjustments to animists pvp damage if they become a problem in rvr... doesn't mean you need to change how they interact in pve.

With the increased xp gain on the server it doesn't really matter. Ive managed 40 levels on my animist in roughly 33 hours. Devs stated the average 1 to 50 is 48 hours / played. If all of hibernia wanted an animist the xp isnt going to stop them from doing that. I see a good mix of all classes playing so it doesnt look like its an issue anyway.

Unfortunately, this will hinder class diversity in a big way and may end up being quite detrimental to the server. Just like on Uth you saw on Alb Necro's and Cab's camping every significant location. Want to farm that OTD for your template? too bad its already camped by 5 Ani's. Want to fill out a raid? Well your choices are Ani, Ani, and Ani. We really need some keep defense, but we dont have any meatshields or CC of any kind as all of our defense is Animists. Obviously I'm just using animists as the easy point here.

Theres what 40 classes at this patch level? People are going to look at ease and viability and pick the obvious easy mode choices. Its going to squish alot of classes out of selection. I just dont understand the decision, leveling has been made really easy and group oriented which is great, but this just throws diversity out the window. It will be like WoW where all you see are the same 5 classes/archetypes everywhere, and thats disappointing because one of the great things about DAoC was its large amount of class choices.

How did anyone get from 1-30 in 30 minutes on an animist? Ive played alpha a few hours just to check out things and I hardly believe this is possible, the traveltime for switching camps alone wouldnt allow it.

If it were true however it should get addressed. I play animist because its the most fun class in Hib, but if everyone and their grandma play one that would be kinda dull.

They aren't it's just an exaggeration. People need to stop believing everything they see in chat or what people tell them. You are correct when you talk about travel time plus downtime because of power. Did they get a Menty to join them? Well then it isn't a solo Ani anymore and I will bet you money that a Menty/Enchie can level almost as fast.

They do level faster than most classes, but a decent group can do almost the same if not better. With /train and xp being like it is, and the group penalty not nearly as bad here as other servers, a good group can level insanely fast. A friend of mind on Mid went from 1-40 on his first day of beta farming in DF with a group of 8. He was 50 early the next day. I am already seeing a lot of 50's with a lot of them, now leveling alts.

I did Hib yesterday on a champion and I saw more Champs on then Ani's.

The point is, just because 1 class can level twice as fast as anyone else, they won't be used for much more then farming at that point.

Ani's are great for keep defense but for roaming they fall almost to last place.

Look at every power solo class from each realm: Ani, Necro, BD - out of those 3, the BD is in the best place for RvR. The other 2? Yeah, very specific roles that they play.

Yes, an Ani can be specced to be decent at roaming, but that kills their farming ability so people don't do it. Necro's can be decent at RvR but more often then not they are simply passed over. BD's are good at RvR, but when people are builing a roaming group they tend to not be listed under sought after classes.

The point is, people will play these early to farm what they want, then they will level the fun class they want for RvR.

People need to stop worrying about "other" classes and how much better they are.

Just play what you want and have fun. The other classes have ZERO impact on you. They happen to be farming that specific item you want? Guess what, Phoenix has mainly RoG drops anyway so not much of a reason to go to a specific place to farm certain gear. Worried about that Ani/Necro farming a specific mob you want? Sorry but that's going to happen regardless whether they level fast or not.

Just play your own class and let other people have fun on their classes. The dev's will decide who THEY think needs to be altered as the server goes on. If 60% of Hib are playing Ani's they will step in I'm sure. Right now the ratio of Ani's to everyone else is no different then what Uthgard had when it went live with the huge xp penalty from pets.

BTW, Champion is going to be a lot of fun especially with Det!!!! =)

Most people are likely to end up with multiple 50's rather easily, some more easily/quickly than others due to group makeup, playstyle etc, but essentially it is just as easy for any single person to level a pet class if they so choose, and will not be penalised for that choice. Just like we won't be penalising a guild group that levels a set 8, or a group that runs KT to KT, or a group that runs a bomb setup, or any other proven method of speed levelling out there that doesn't necessarily involve pet classes at all specifically. If you don't want to level a pet class, then hey, excellent, don't - but don't wish ill upon others that do ... If you think a small exp penalty from pets makes any significant difference on the number of 50's for a given class, history proves you absolutely, positively, inarguably 100% dead wrong - there will never, ever, under any circumstances, be a shortage of farming toon availability, no matter what penalties some folks may wish be applied to them.
