Reskin Merchant?

This topic came about as the staff I use (SI quest) that had a DD charge on it got changed from instant cast to a hard cast time. The utility on the staff is awful but I thought it was very nice to use for RvR securing a kill as the DD was instant. I had put the staff into my template and used feathers and bounty points to change the appearance and also put a glow on it, quite a pricy ordeal but since this was going to be my "end game" weapon I thought it was worth it.

Now that the staff got nerfed abruptly I put in an appeal but unfortunately cannot get reimbursed for such a purchase. After some digging, I understand it was unintentional to have it in the game as Uthred posted here https://forum.playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4557 but I had no idea that the staff was like that originally and was also unaware it was going to be "fixed". As I really enjoy the skinning options they have implemented it is extremely pricy to have to do this for multiple items. I thought it would be a nice idea if it was possible to do one of the following, up to the devs discretion:

1 - Hand in the skinned item for full reimbursement.
2 - Hand in the skinned item for a percentage of the cost back.
3 - Hand in the skinned item and another item of the same type to transfer the skin.
4 - When you purchase a skin option it unlocks forever.

This could be a one time deal, a timed thing, or something else. It just sucks to have spent a lot to reskin the weapon to have it abruptly "fixed" to be far worse than what it was.

Thoughts?

I agree and understand that it is for sure frustrating wasting/losing so much time/ressources.
If i was in that situation i would also be angry, dissapointed and would not think of it as unbiased as i am doing now.

That said, we really need to consider the overall situation.
In a business driven game, the "solution" often would be to have some compensation for players that get their items changed. Let them turn in THAT item to the reskin NPC for full refund, for one or two weeks. Then go back to normal. (still wouldn't help with templates having to be reworked....but that's a much more complicated issue)

The thing is, this is not a business driven game. It is completely build and worked on as a hobby by the staff.
Giving you back your feathers for the reskins, saves you what exactly? One or two TG/Galla/Sidi raids of time?
Now imagine how much time, coding, testing, implementing the mechanic of refunding feathers takes. That is also time that has to be put in.

And there are thousands of other issues all the time that the staff already pours their free time into.
I believe most of us (me included) need to change our mindset a little bit, regarding "but i spent so much time and now that is wasted because of X". I mean seriously, i saw someone throwing a fit in advice when he heard that his lvl11 character that he drunkenly deleted will not be restored.

The definition of 'X' has to be diagnosed here. If this occured because of something I myself did then I would not care. It would have been my own fault and I would live with the consequences, much like the example you gave. This suggestion came about because this was something out of my control, it was something that was unknowingly changed abruptly by the developers.

It was 45,000 worth of Phoenix Feathers, so around 4-5 Galla Raids. And I understand that it would be time taken away from more urgent matters. Once things settle down and time might become available to implement some new things -- this is just one idea I thought of that came about because of my circumstance. If the developers dont think it's worth the time, that's fine.

I've accepted the fact that, currently, I am SOL and I can live with that. I just thought what I suggested could be a nice QoL change they could implement for the playerbase. If people hate it, so be it. If people like it, maybe it could get implemented in the future. Personally, I think unlocking all the skins for your account would be something cool to work towards. But that's just me which is why I brought it to the forums to get others input.

Remove the cast timer. Make RvR more skillful.
