Zerging is fun. Not to say 8v8 or 1v1 or whatever other flavor RvR isn't fun. They all have their benefits.
Two biggest benefits of zerging are the fact that everyone can do it, and it's casual. Of course, just like going on an endgame raid with 450 of your closest friends, the benefit you gain is much reduced. But faced with that or going out solo and getting zerged by 8-mans, I'll take the actual zerg. Especially if I'm on a class/spec combo that is unattractive to groups.

Or did you mean the video itself? Nice thing about videos is the little X in the corner.

Meh, there is nothing worst than starting a clean 1v1, 4v4, 8v8 and 2+ other groups run up and dump toys on it. There is nothing "fun" about that anyway you try to describe it. If there is a zerg out and another zerg is formed to combat it -- fine /shrug -- but when that zerg chases after 3 people for 3 realm points shared, that is retarded, not fun.

DarkAge was created with "skill sets" as its main objective -- which is why casting is interrupted (even by a grey mob); not like your typical MMO today, where you can do everything while being beat on. If skills aren't being utilized (and just cheesing your way up your ranks), I am sorry, I disagree with it... but of course, its your prerogative.

You are right, I should have X'd out of the video sooner... especially watching a support class play with the default small arse group window; not curing disease, not rezzing his group mates and not using heal on them either... clearly zerging was more important than supporting his group mates.

8g running over an 8man is a fairer fight than an 8man running over a solo. At least the 8-man has a chance to extend, cycle CCs, and get some kills. Especially if the zerg is as bad as that guy appeared to be, and/or is filled with the untemplated, the mis-specced, and the mis-classed.

How do you draw the line anyway? If I'm on a 3-man, is it OK for us to hit a duo? How about for a 5-man to hit us? Or 3v3 but one side has a blue in the group?

Does your 8man look at another 8man at clip and say "oh, they only have 1 druid and no bard, and OMG IT'S A FIRBY ANIMIST!" and peel off because they are casuals?

I love this game when it's not played like an agreed upon chess match, but a massive war/slugfest between three factions. Plus, being "alllowed" to RvR when playing one of the cool yet unwanted classes is also fantastic.

The more tactical 8v8 or smallman certainly has it's place and is fun, I just lament when 8v8 is seen as the be-all-end-all purpose of the game, when it really seems like it should be more of a massive shit-show of attacking and defending keeps and relics with all classes welcomed, which is pretty fun, in my opinion.

Anyway, cool vid!

The line is drawn by respect. There are several groups; including my own, that respect a fight already in progress. Respect PVE'rs farming trying to make it to big boy league; respect a 1v1 stealther or solo'er fight. If it is a 2v3, it is still more of a competitive engage than a 8v2. There are solo'ers that can kill 3; especially some of the kids on this server.

It's along the lines of encouraging people to come out and play. If you discourage them by adding, taking advantage of or completely zerging any numbers they can group up with, you lose population more so than make it stronger.

Dev's can solve this by creating an 8v8 zone (like coding in the Island); where your respected 8mans can compete their epeen against each other; with a penalty to groups that attempt/add into a fight (same policies written about grieving). And leave Frontier open to the "zergs."

You lose a fan base, if there is a dominate realm that is superior on zergs (alb for one is lacking currently) and with the hundreds of lifetap/split assist bonedancer / shaman disease spammers, it makes it unfun on the opposite end, especially if you are out looking for a fair fight. This same method (zerging) is exactly why LIVE lost its fan base. ijs

All good points; for its purpose (Keep/Relic Taking) is definitely worth the masses. But not running around chasing small mans, dumping install mezz/stun on em. There is a time and place for zerging; and quite frankly it is not being played in that manner. If you have 6fgs of mids out (which was last night around 10pm est), why aren't you taking keeps/relics? Naw, you just all stuck to each other killing stealthers, small mans and the few 8mans that were looking for a fight. /shrug

It got so bad, my group said, we'll just go into DF (that was closing soon) to see if we can get a few 8mans running around cleaning up the Hibs... guess what. We killed 2 different groups and 4 of those groups that were in the Frontiers came in to kill us. LOL --- i mean.....

Not jamming an 8v8 is not the same as saying "zerging is wrongfun"

And the fact is, if you are bad/new, you probably do need 16v8 to have even a fighting chance. Or more. I've been (on live) in kite groups that extended a zerg across entire zones, getting kills the whole way.

There are also plenty of situations where zerging is completely appropriate. Like a relic take/defend. Or even just assaulting a defended position. Or a milegate.
And there is another category, which isn't really a zerg, it's just a giant brawl of 3 sides. A melee if you will. That is fun.

I like 8v8. I'm not convinced it's the only valid playstyle. Part of what makes the game good is the lack of arenas, and I hope they never put them in, other than maybe for a special event. The mix of playstyles, all forced to use the same sandbox, is what makes the game work as much as the 3-sides format.

So a zerged realm rank 10 is an achievement in your book? If so, shame on you.
