packet loss question

Hi, I have played Daoc off and on since release. Not having any computer background though, I still don't understand what the three little dots represent. Only that if they turn yellow and or red I will have Big Lag.

This is coming to you good folk as I am currently experiencing said Big Lag. I started on Phoenix last week and have been trouble free. I last played about 6 hours ago with no problems. Now the right and middle dots are both solid yellow triangles and it's a slide show. I tested my internet speed and it's plenty for what this game requires (25 DL, 11UL) . I've logged in and out twice to no avail. Any insight would be welcome.

Thanks!

If you know how to use the tracert command in Windows, you can use it to: tracert 195.201.199.11 and examine the output if there is an issue with any router between you and the game server.

You can monitor this each time it gets bad to see if your ISP is behaving badly or if its somewhere else along the route.

Also, if you're using a congested WiFi connection, you might want to try a wired connection for full duplex communication between your desktop and the outgoing interface on your router/modem. Gaming on WiFi, especially with multiple users or interference/channel overlap, can make for awful game play.

Thank you! So I redacted the local stuff up until the point that it is getting jammed up. Whatcha think? Again, no problems until now

Yer getting messed up in Seattle. Maybe try a VPN to bypass some of that stuff between you and Germany (where the server is)

I like to use WinMTR to test these connection issues. Here's my test today to Phoenix:

I live 6 hops away from Phoenix server and you can see from this quick test of 10 trys, the very worst I got was 62 ms and the average for that hop was 24 ms

Use this output as a reference - and try again another day when the connection is fuxxored up and compare. Just take notes.. if that 7 hop is still goofy, day after day, and your play time to the server is affected, then maybe a VPN will work... and maybe even a call to your provider will help because that looks like a Comcast link to Level3 that's misbehaving.

You on Comcast? If so, keep documenting your tracerts, and submit to them if you continue to have issues.
