''Crossrealming is not allowed and trying to circumvent the 12h realm timer will lead to a punishment of the player.

1st offense: 3-day ban
2nd offense: 7-day ban
3rd offense: Permaban of Player''

I understand fully the negative effect cross realming can effect a players enjoyment of dark age of camelot. My issue today is why this falls in under the category of 'cross-realming' I've experienced this first hand on both freeshards and live servers. However in my experience if a player truly is determined to cross realm they would do so with 2 of the following methods.

1 - Logging into 2 realms at the same time - Pretty self explanatory and the most likely culprit of cross realming.
e.g. loggin bot to watch groups leaves pks / loggin in a stealther to watch chokepoints like milegates etc.

2 - Community. Freeshard servers players , Like dark age of camelot players in general are a very tight knit community that have grown to know each other. I think it's fair to say that the majority of the population knows a friend or anyone in general who is on another realm, be it through discord / dm etc. Using them for the purpose of /who locations etc.

That being said I can't understand the need for a whopping 12 hours duration to change realm as a risk of cross realming. And I'm familiar with the arguments of it taking a week on uthgard and 'thats how it used to be on live' But live realised that relogging realms wasn't by any means the main culprits for cross realming and removed that rule. I'm would consider myself someone who's always open to have my mind changed so hopefully the reasoning for the 12 hour ban can be explained to me from a gamemasters perspective.

The reason I'm posting this today is because of how its effecting me (and others I'm sure). I have a lot of real life friends who heard about this server and all the great stories , they are all on mid and are casual players and playing more for the nostalgia.
I then have friends playing alb which are more rvr focused and I have been playing with for the last few years. I'm currently having to Do one day off one day on with a 12 hour break every time I want to switch realms.
To give another example there was a point last friday night, I've no work over the weekend, I'm exciting to get into the game for the night - But I need to log off and do nothing because It's the only way I can make that SI raid the next morning on another realm.

The one negative part of switching realms I fully agree with would be rvr guilds switching mid/hib/alb like tic tac toe whenever they see the lowest population. I think if they could do this instantly it would not benefit anyone. But my suggestion would be to set it to an hour delay even. If you have an rvr guild or group all online together, I really can't see them logging out of the game to stare at the computer for an hour and change to a realm that has no guarentee of being underpopulated anymore.
Just like I can't see any solo'er / mini group logging off - waiting 1 hour - logging into another realm for some /whos - logging off again for another hour and finally getting back to rvr- Its just not going to happen.

It feels like players who are trying to enjoy the game are being punished by a feature which is designed to prevent a bad practice , a bad practice that wouldn't even happen in the first place.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

This was discussed ad nauseum in beta and they have (repeatedly) said it won't change.

I haven't followed all earlier discussions, but the 12hour timer is (probably) not only there to prevent crossrealming, but also winning team joining.

Additionally "realm pride" is imo one of DAoCs main features. Being able to switch so fast at all is a downside for parts of the plyerbase

I think it should be 20 hours personally, not 12. But hey, it's alright.

12 hours is fine. You choose which realm you want to play on that night and you can reselect a different one tomorrow.

I agree with OP, for the same reasons he has listed. Sadly I wasn't here during Beta. Not that my voice would have swayed anyone, but taking part in the discussions may have made me feel better about the timer. I was spoiled with Live servers removing it all together.
