Solo RVR Classes ?

I am by my nature a solo player. It's my nature. That has always lead me to play an archer. I Played archer for 12 years on DAOC. I expected to play it here but I hear unending concerns about Rangers(my preferred archer) being gimped into mediocrity. Right now I'm focused on an NS as my only answer to a decent rvr solo class(not my first choice). I'm asking....now that the game is in its launch form...are there other options I should consider ?

PS
Stealther groups.....a stealther guild have been great fun in the distant past if any know if stealther guilds are being organized.

I think you’re on the right path with a solo stealther. If you want to play a visible Hib solo I would consider something like Enchanter, Champ, VW.

If you want to play a Ranger just play a Ranger. If it is your preferred class don’t suffer needlessly just because some chumps said it wasn’t good. Try it and see if you can make it work.

Minstrel or Skald. Minstrels are the strongest solo classes in the game and is one of the hardest classes to have any counter play to.

Skalds have the speed, and high growth on their weapons, as well as light CC and DD. Can pretty much decimate anyone solo if they get the jump. Not as good as minstrel.

Hibs don't have very good solo classes, champion is nice but lacks speed.

Soloing on a visible is going to extremely painful, especially without any speed. So, I would stick with a stealther.

But at the same time, if you like hard mode, or find a friend with speed, have at it! I loved soloing on my merc. I died a lot, but those fun 1v3+ that i came out on top made it SO much more satisfying.

Rangers crit shot my skald in Cale for over half my HP...and it seems like they can do that while I was running. Granted missing some con from items, but melee resists maxed. Don't know how it pans out at 50...but I'd get out there and shoot people in the ass :-)

Whats the better solo Arms or Merc?

That won't be happening once you get levels. Also you can be crit now anytime you aren't in combat unless you've already been crit before in the last 15 seconds.

Basically, archery on this server is treated like a melee two handed weapon but at range using a base attack (non-styled). The damage is less than it was back in the 1.65 patch era on live for high specced archers in bows and so the very few archers you will find here will be more melee specced to not be wasting their spec points.

If you have an assassin I would continue with that as envenom was also improved here.

Sigh....I hope you are wrong about archers...but fear you are correct :-(.

Old school Friar here...

Played DAOC live from 1st week or release...

Used to love my Friar for solo.. lack of speed sucked but made up for self-buffs and a good whack. used to have some fun fights back then against the top skalds on the server..good close fights also.. back then i also recall Assasins was easy RPs .. to the point i could sit down eat the PA get up and whack em down v v quickly.

Excalibur-Eu was my server back then,

Archers in general do quite well in the BGs. We'll see how that translates to big boy RvR. My ranger was great in Thid and still pretty good in Caled. However I've gone all in on ranged sniping..no melee, all RA to boost ranged dmg. Maybe I was the one who shot you!

I had a friend on the other server who did quite well as a solo mentalist...and another who did quite well as a solo druid of all things. How that would translate to here...

I think you can do fine as a ranger just understand the limitations and pick your encounters wisely. If you think you are just gonna kill everything at range you see you will be disappointed.

I agree with the statement about archers earlier in the thread. I feel like archers don't really have a place in the game right now aside from catching solo casters between milegates that aren't aware enough to hit their F key after an arrow breaks their bubble or leaching off of the zerg. My hunter gets destroyed by assassins and any visible melee class. It's pretty rough out there.

Curious question.. is there REALLY any way to beat a minstrel solo..?

-chain armor
-stealth
-mezz (that you can cast from Stealth to ninja CC peeps)
-insta stun
-2 DDs
-pet charms
-SoS
-IP
-Purge
-Speed

........
I think that’s pretty much it, no pun intended..

And I am salty about it, I won’t lie.. but I am legitimately asking if there’s ANY way to solo a minstrel lol.. pointers anyone?? xD?!

And I’m contributing to this topic in the sense of stealth warfare for soloability.. roll a minstrel if you don’t wanna be frustrated solo wise..

I know you want an archer, but from the testing I did during the beta.. and especially because of the atmosphere in game right now?.. everything will be zerg oriented until, if at all (hopefully not), the server loses some population.

You CAN sit and wait for the opportune moment, which DOES happen during the off times of when people are just about to log in or out (very rare), but just realize that it won’t be very often.. I hope this helps..

Side note: bow damage is in fact significantly different/lower.. I.e: speccing 50 bow compared to 45 bow is about a 30 dmg difference. But that only means more points for Steath (you get more MoS levels the higher Stealth you go), or more into weapon to defend yourself.

Hope this helps.. sorry for writing you a guys a book hehe.. D:

it is quite hard to play solo here due to population, rvr zones are very crowded. also there are not non-written rules among player to respect soloers like we had in other servers.
if you dont have speed you will get bashed by smallmans, full groups, even by zergs. no exception.
if you had a chance to get a fair 1 vs 1 fight (which will happen 1 of a 20 run), %90 someone will add/interfere before its over.
if you had a chance to get a fight and win it, you will probably get killed anyway before entering stealth or re-gaining your speed.

solo capable classes without speed like reaver, friar are useless for this prupose imho. even solo class with secondary speed classes with like enchanter, sorc will get bashed on sight without finding any 1v1 fair fight.

if you insist on solo, i suggest you to stick stealther or classes with speed like minstrel, skald.
