Iirc it was 46+ and 48+ before, so he downscaled the level to join, which is good.

Perfect raid yesterday, the feather system realy makes it worth joining a raid (9k+ feathers).
I went like 15 times LD so that is the only downside, is this becose of the 400ppl in bg?
The Loot treasure chest of the BG is a realy good ad in a BG, you can see what loot is there and one by one gets permission to take there loot based on the random1000.

looking forward to the next so i can save up some more feathers ;-)

It was absolutely crazy.. Did we ever reach these numbers on live? Like for ML raids and such?

Also, when is the next Galla raid? I need my feather fix.

The devs posted that they weren't going to create a login queue for release because they were confident that they could handle the load.

From here, they said that the server "died with 3.5 connected or 700 in visible range".

They optimised things and improved the limit to 5k. If the visible range cap increased by the same amount, then the cap for nearby players would be around 1000 people in visible range. 400 people on a single raid and all in view distance of each other is already half way to what would cause a server crash.

The big problem is that if you have lots of people who can see each other, then the load on the server increases fast.

If there are 100 people in view of each other, then the server has to send 99 messages to 100 players for each update. That is 9900 messages.

If there are 200 people in view of each other, then it is 199 messages to 200 players which means 39800 messages, which is a factor of 4 increase for a doubling of the number of players.

200 players which are reasonably spread out is only double as hard as 100 players, but 200 players near each other is four times as hard as 100 players near each other.

I don't know what type or architecture they are using, I don't know how much they can change the netcode, but full server centred mmo don't exist anymore

So no, the server isn't supposed to send that much messages

But it was the case back in 2001, so maybe they didn't / couldn't change the netcode to an hybrid architecture

To me it seemed that mostly the same people got LD (at least in my group it was always the same 3 people, combined probably 30+ times).

Here is what I do to avoid LD in Galladoria raids:

- Shadows to NONE
- Magical Effects to NONE
- All models to classical
- Show only the following names: Mobs, group members
- Set screen resolution to 800x600

Doing all this makes the game look like back in 2002 - however, since I have been doing this I never LDed again, even on the very large raids.
