Archer Toons

Let me start by making this clear: I don't believe Archery damage is gimped. Nor do I believe Rangers/Hunters/Scouts are gimped.

What I do believe is that a toon created as an ARCHER is gimped. The current consensus is for all Archer classes to forego the Archery line in favor of higher melee spec. Right now, there is simply no reason to spec higher than 35 in Archery and some would say little reason even to spec that high. That is an issue.

Buffs have a lot to do with this, but that is for another discussion.

Given the barriers to Archery damage (interrupt code, block rates, etc.) I believe the Archery line needs some help. Penetrating Arrow III at spec 50 has been suggested and I think it's a great idea. I'm happy to hear others (i.e. +0.2% archery speed per spec level?) If Rangers and Hunters were given a reason to spec more highly in Archery, we may see fewer melee specs and maybe even some groups willing to take Archers in them...

All those story archers could also swing a pretty mean sword.

Archery was lost when crit shot was customized.

So did this ever get addressed? Seems like a gross oversight

It appears there is little concern for Archery. I really had my hopes up, too.

Server is brand new and seems the dev's are pretty active with things. I'm sure there will be class adjustments made after release.

Archery is pretty gimped. Basically you have to consider the damage of Archery balanced against the counters to Archery. If Archery was much higher damage with the current Archery counters (Self BT, PBT, Shields, Engage, hard interrupts, Armor Factor, etc.) then it would be balanced. If Archery damage stays as it is now but has less counters (removing self BT from game would be perfect, for example) then it would also be balanced.

However having current damage and current counters renders Archery gimp.

I would love to see archer classes balanced out to be viable in 8man groups. That would be. . . . just so amazing. I know some of you will feel the same.

Another light but usefull tweak could be to remove the arrow need.
Archers are almost the only classes that need to buy or craft in order to do actual damages (yeah I know, throwing axes and crossbow too).
Quiver could become only a damage selector (ie: switch from slash to thrust or crush damage).

I rly wish speccing more in bow would increase damage much more than it is now after 35+15(at rr5 for example).

Yeah, free arrow, throwing knives and stuff like that.
This is really annoying at lower levels.

At lv 6 with the cheapest arrows, I have ~35% miss rate against yellow and can't even kill them reliably lol.
I didn't try the expensive one yet because I have no money :p.

They could just make it all magic damage while they’re there, I mean who actually wants to feel like an archer when playing an archer...

Scout has det, can slam, can snare and (i think) rapid fire II can't be interrupted permanently.
just saying

To get a good sense of viability in 8man groups, one has to look at Live (Ywain) up to August 2016, and early beta for Phoenix. After August 2016 Live and late beta Phoenix they no longer were viable in 8mans. Right now a Nightshade can do equal or better (depending on bow spec and Archer stats) ranged damage per second (not per shot) than an Archer.

No, I honestly like having physical arrows I can choose between. Makes it way more interesting and feel less like I'm just a mage with a bow shaped staff.

not sure if sarcasm, but the main pull of playing an archer is to actually be shooting arrows and benefitting from rangeincreases depending on your elevation
