12 hour realm time clarification

I read the rules and saw mention of "attempting to circumvent the 12 hour realm timer will result in a ban" and would like some clarification on what the 12 hour realm timer is.

My situation is this. I am playing on midguard with my wife and a friend, and would like to, when not playing with them, play on albion as an alt. I have not been able to create an albion character, but I am wondering if there is a 12 hour timer that is preventing it? Like if I don't play for 12 hours, can I create an albion alt to play on my own when they aren't playing, or is this considered crossrealming?

I wasn't able to find any information on the 12 hour realm timer beyond the one mention in the rules, so I wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on this so I don't end up breaking any rules.

Thanks in advance!

That's exactly how it works. Creating a character or logging / being logged in restarts the timer, whenever you have not played for 12 consecutive hours the client will launch in the realm select and you are free to choose another realm.

I have a question on top of just playing two realms. I saved some of my usual names on Midgard, where I started my Phoenix adventure. However I want to 'move' a few names over to Hibernia.

Since you state that creating a character or logging in starts the timer does this mean that I can go to my Midgard character screen, delete a character, then relog into hib to create a character with the name I just freed?

Think they mentioned that somewhere: Just being in the char selection screen does not trigger the timer. Thus: Deleting mids (without creating one) should not reset the timer and allow an immediate switch over to hib/alb to create those chars there. You'd have to not log any chars or create any in one realm in order for the timer to reset properly.

I just confirmed for us.

Logged into Mid, deleted toon. Closed client, logged back in and then was able to select new realm and use name for new toon.

This was after waiting 12 hours from signing off on Mid last night.
