Reaver! - Phoenix Freeshard

Hail Warriors of Albion,

Im interested in playing a Reaver on release but at the same time have no desire to level up a character to 50 only to be 'meh' in RvR. Having never played a Reaver, from what research I've done it seems 42 Shields for Slam is a must as is 50 Flex for Leviathan. Leviathan does insane damage, but being a back style is questionable to me at best.

I'd like to hear from any experienced Reaver on any info you can give! Will having access to Determination open up the class? Why would an 8 man take a Reaver or a Merc?

Just makes sure you never use the auras in group rvr and you should be good

5 min purge going to ruin alot of your fights unless you master the ol run through levi. That being said, im still prob going to roll reaver/friar or play my VW and cry.

I think it’ll be more difficult to justify a Reaver who is more prone to CC, doesn’t offer group any buff like utility, can’t heal others, and damage is over all situational to be meaningful and their auras are usually discouraged in RvR. Does have some self healing and range interrupt abilities, but I can’t imagine a group taking a Reaver over a Mercenary, Armsman, or Paladin. Perhaps if they need/want more melee when the above classes aren’t available?

One way of picking a class for RvR is asking what role you want to play and how your proposed class will fill that roll and be superior to other classes doing it. I personally can’t see how a Reaver fulfills the DPS or peeler roll better than other classes. However that doesn’t mean your skill can’t prevail against paper DAoC- many have overcome that barrier before. But you may need to be in a guild or alliance to give you the ability to demonstrate that and become known for your skill initially.

5 min purge = purge 5 = 30 RS points.
Nobody is going to have that ANY TIME soon
Even when they gave free rr6, nobody ran purge 5. People barely ran purge3.

- Race Options; Saracen-Inconnu-Briton. Which one would be the most suitable? I am thingkin aboıut Saracen, What do you think ?
- Whip Choices; Thrust-Crush-Slash (For Pve and Pvp) . For pve slash, for pvp thrust is the best one ? If I choose saracen reaver, my dex bonus gonno effect my dmg as well ?
- First RAs till rr5: Which RAs should be taken first ? IMO LW1-Tireless1- Purge-......

Considering that Flex is Str/Dex based, the Briton is the most balanced. Inconnu and Saracen start with the same Str (50) but the Saracen has the most Dex (80). You can easily add 15 points to Str on character creation, and 10 to either Con (hp) or Piety for more power pool and spell damage. All three races start with the same Piety.

The Saracen also has higher Quickness so you attack faster, and with the high dex you block more.

For the weapon, Flex is the obvious one, as for the type while leveling doesn't matter, use the best one at your disposal. For RvR, the one that fits your template

RA...at level5 with your first point, Tireless. And you get Determination in Phoenix!

Reaver is cooler

Other people answered the questions pretty well. Keep in mind you do more of your damage from your offensive weapon proc, short term damage add, and the DD procs attached to styles. Thus, weapon damage type (slash/crush/etc) makes almost no difference, but hey you can switch easily depending on what you are fighting. Because you're not worried about base weapon damage you want to attack as fast as possible.
The racial differences are minor, but I would go Saracen because:
- very slightly higher combined str/dex over Briton
- Same quickness as Briton (remember you want to attack fast) but more than Iconnu
- Higher dex is good for your blocking and parrying

The differences are honestly very small in the grand scheme of things. For starting stats I would do 10 Dex, 15 Qui (regardless of Race)
