Step 1 create an account - no problem
Step 2 Create a Fresh DAoC Folder and update to Live version by running camelot.exe:
Question 1 & 2 - Creata fresh DAoC folder. Anywhere like on desktop? Just create new folder and rename it DAoC?
Question 3 - update to Live version by running camelot.exe Where do I find Camelot.exe?
Probably more questions once I get past these.

as a rule of thumb, don`t ever put huge amounts of data on your desktop

so, basically anywhere on your hardrive, but the desktop. Put it where you usually put your games.

Let DAoC install the live version into that folder (you can get the exe from the official DAoC homepage, and i believe in the phoenix-instructions there is a link too=

Then download and extract the phoenix files into that folder and run the phoenix launcher

HOW TO PLAY ON PHOENIX SERVER:
STEP 1- Success
STEP 2 - Success
Problems at this point were figuring out how to get the DAoCsetup to install it in the directory I wanted instead of where it wanted. Finally overcame that hurdle. Files installed in:
Program files (x86)/DAoC/Electronic Arts/Dark Age of Camelot.
The directory includes the following 5 files: Account Management short cut, camelot app, Dark Age of Camelot shortcut, patch.cfg, uninstDAOC app
STEP 3 - Success
I now click on Phoenix launcher I click on it -
I hit extract and then select directory to download them into, Which is the same one as my DAoC files are installed in. Program files (x86)/DAoC/Electronic Arts/Dark Age of Camelot.
Note: You Must CLICK ON EXTRACT AT THIS TIME (then you can select the directory you want them in)
Step 4 - problem
As instructed at this point I click on the Phoenix Application. I get a pop-up move files to DAoC directory!!!! What? They already in the directory!
I then click on Phoenixconnect still no go.
What's going on at this point? Very frustrating trying to just get this game installed.
Should I click on the Phoenixpatcher? Maybe. Instead I click on Camelot app. It's now installing and patching a crap load of things.
After all the files are updated. I click on play on the normal DAoC screen. Up comes the old/normal DAoC login screen. I enter my user name is already in there. I just enter my password (same user name and password I used when I played years ago.) It comes up with "Account terminated. Contact customer service for more details." I believe this must be the pay for play server.
Next I tried running the Phoenixpatcher. It updating and/or installed a slew of files.
I clicked on the Phoenix app icon and this time up popped the phoenix login screen. I enter my user name and password. I open the file manager and can see the game run for about 5 seconds then exits.
Next step I guess is to delete everything from the directory. After that do everything over again but click on the Phoenixpatcher first, then try the Phoenix icon.
I've spend a few hours trying to install this game, at this point I'm calling it quits. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow if someone spots my post and can tell me where I am messing up.

The generic "HOW TO PLAY ON PHOENIX SERVER" should be a lot more detailed. If others are running into anywhere near the problems I am, you probably lost a lot of players just because they couldn't install the game successfully, Maybe it's just a stupid operator error as I see 200+ players on line at times.

Dark Age of Camelot shortcut

shortcut to where?
it sounds as if it would shortcut to the ACTUAL directory where you put the game

Another possibilty would be that you only downloaded the camelot-launcher...you have to run that and it will download the game then. Click the phoenix-launcher after that has completed

And, seriously, without wanting to be condescending, if you already have this much trouble installing the game i fear that you will not have much fun (i could be completely wrong and you are very patient and have no problem sinking tens (probably rather hundreds) hours of gametime into it, to learn the basics.
DAoC is a great game, but it is from two decades ago where tutorials were not really a thing, and getting started can be hard in it.

If you need further help i will try to help, but ill go to bed soon

EDIT: i checked my own game directory. The shortcuts you listed are Internet-shortcuts. disregard them. You need to run (double click) the camelot app, wait for it to download the full game. THEN try the phoenoix files again

well in my posts I mention that at one point I had a pay for play account.

I played DAoC for a long time in the past. So playing the game once in if I ever get in won't be a problem. It's getting it installed that's the problem.

Like I said in my post I'll try again from scratch tomorrow.

Oh in fact about 6 months to a year ago I was playing on another private server. Got it installed there. :-)

- STOP RIGHT HERE -

Now, Instead
1) you need to click on Program files (x86)/DAoC/Electronic Arts/Dark Age of Camelot/CAMELOT.EXE
2) let the app do it's job downloading game files until it shows a button 'PLAY', do not click it, just hit EXIT
3) Then click on Program files (x86)/DAoC/Electronic Arts/Dark Age of Camelot/phoenix.exe
4) enjoy.

Good to hear, and i really wasn't trying to insult you
If you have played DAoC you know that it really isn't easy to get started when you are completely new

Hopefully you managed to do it now, i believe you just missed downloading the full game (it sounds as if you only downloaded the game LAUNCHER)
