Menta charm

Has someone toyed around with it yet? Never had a menta to charm stuff on live (mine was a hot bot )...

According to a formula I found you can charm stuff with "charlvl * .66 + sun-lvl(spec+equip+rr) / 3". This would mean that a lvl 50 menta with the 33 charm, +11 on equip and RR1 should reliably be able to chamr a lvl 47-48 mob (depending if it's rounded up or down). According to the page I found that formula on this is the bare minimum you should be able to hold.

Is this correct or can a RR1 menta reliably hold lvl 50 pets with the lvl 33 skill?

The charm spell you use is for the type of mob you are trying to charm, not its level.

I use my grey charm to charm grogans (lvl 50) and templars (lvl 53 at r4 wasn’t an issue)

Other types of mob require the green or blue charm or else you will get an error message, saying that you cannot charm this mob with this spell.

Always use the lowest possible charm spell as it changes the power cost/tick.

Didn't know that the spell level only changes the mob type. Ty!

Your light composite spec (spec + Realm rank) is what influences the resist % you get on the mob you charmed.

That’s why people spec 46 light (even if your last dd is at 45) to get better charm.

Actually, unless there are more custom changes at play, the formula in the OP is more accurate. There have always been rounding differences from one freeshard to another, but level is a bigger factor than spec.

At level 50, 46+15, I'm holding a level 53 pet with a 15% resist rate. That is high enough to occasionally chain enough resists to take a swipe at me, but not often, and what most people would consider manageable. A level 52 pet would probably be the sweet spot of being worth dragging around versus being easy to hold.

46 is the highest group-friendly base light spec, as menties need demezz to get groups.

Toyed around with this because i wanted to know if tri-speccing would work (33 sun/32 moon/28 menta). For the sole reason of using hot on the pet, having an ok pom and still being able to supply a group with the demezz.
Not sure how viable that spec would be in rvr as I just don't have the time to play atm.

RR1 (33+11) can't reliably hold a lvl 50 pet, 5L9 (so 33+15) can. You still get resists but 3 in a row (which would seemingly be required to break the bond) did not happen while I ran around.

Given that leveling tradeskills is a much easier process here, I was interested in growing a menty 1-50 without any holism spec, as I should have easy access to potions. I've always hated the AOE DOT 'n' Run playstyle of leveling a mentalist, and now I won't have to. If groups whine they want PoM, I'll just carry extra power regen potions and hand them out.

I've played around with different /level xx tests, and (solo atm) leveling seems to be sufficiently fun, manageable, and speedy with various charmed pets, great nukes, and baseline stuns from going full light until 40. The group role would be ranged DPS rather than support, and I couldn't say if there's a demand for that, but even solo was very rewarding.

Not sure if I remember that correctly but mastery of focus only raises a spells level to a maximum of lvl 50 right? Or was that vs players only?

I know that MOF was a godsend for all trispec casters but how does that work with menta/minstrel charms? Above 50 because pets = pve?
