The beta is not the server.

I hear a lot of people talking about conditions of the server.

Which sort of sux, btw. Everyone fighting in Emain in one small area.

Zerging. Ganking. Lack of leadership. Then getting rolled over and over by groups or small man while pugging or solo.

There will be some of that on live here but not like this.

1. People will be xping.
2. People will be crafting.
3. People will be forming guilds and doing things as guilds.
4. Not everyone can have instant everything.

And a few other obvious things.

I kind of wonder what we SHOULD be doing with our remaining beta time.

I think we should step back from the pvp a bit and do some more focused stuff.

What do we need tested? Can the devs direct us? Do we want to test some areas of the game like relics or dragons or what?

If devs want certain things tested let the players know and we can try and test them.

At a certain point, I believe it would be in the best interest of the server to close the beta. And then at that point the devs can focus on:

1. Fixing bugs.
2. Figuring out when they will go live.
3. Sending out notification to all the players about when live is.
4. Advertising somewhere, and asking the players to advertise.
5. We can also make getting started guides, class guides, have a guild recruiting area, etc, etc, etc on forums.

I also think there needs to be a balance phase for various things and we should see some polls asking for player input on what they want to see or have some good focused discussions within the forum.

And you CAN predict player behavior somewhat. What will that first day and week of live be like? Do we want all things rolled out at that time? Tasks yes or no? DF controlled by keeps, yes or no? Keep taking yes or no? Etc, etc, etc. Do we need level or rr caps put in place? What do we want to see for a long term success of the server and how do we accomplish those things?

Maybe just a simple question answered-- or asked-- what would a successful roll out of the server look like? What sort of population can we expect? How do we maintain that population.

good post Relv. And if certain testing IS needed, they could always incentivize it by adding some cool drops off the mobs. Maybe costumes or weapons etc. But yes, this is not the server at live, it's a beta.

They stated that they need no more testing, they have enough data of everything, just have to fix many bugs still. Meanwhile, as they are tweaking, they are looking at the result of the fixed bugs/tweaks.

In my opinion this could be done best in a live environment, since there is no gamebreaking anything present, just minor tweaks and numbers that could be changed quick, but that's just me (except for one thing: I would keep caravans/tasks on minimal gain at the first 1-2 months of the server, to avoid ppl exploiting some unknown bug that never surfaced to reach high RR in a short period of time). The state of PVE is totally unknown to me, I mean we heard that raids have scripted mechanics but I have no clue if they were tested previously by players or by devs. Tbh my PVE on the server so far was testing all mid melee styles with different weapons on the same mobs, looked good to me, the bugs were mostly glitches, tooltips, number updates on sheet, etc..

I think the hype can only grow if the server goes offline for the public while fixing bugs, right now i50 feeds the addiction (even overfeeds it, makes it boring). If there is no i50 then everyone looking forward to try things, instead of just kicking rocks without a reason right now in game.

I also hope that if there is some extreme exploit that the server gets a roll back.

As long as everything is handled with good communication almost anything can be solved.

You mean personal rollbacks of exploiters I would never play on a server that does a full server-wide rollback (except if for purely technical reasons, like a corrupted database beyond repair). Even if there are hundreds of exploiters, they can be dealt with manually. Nowadays you can mine all data from sys logs, so it shouldn't take long either.

Wow you nailed it. Sure would hate for someone to lose an hour of play. Whatever.
