I kind of sense that the playerbase here just doesn't care about keeps. I am hoping the relic system is able to hold their interest.
I just have this impression from playing here that players just want to zerg around border zones and kill anything in sight. Taking keeps is almost like an inconvenience.
I am not sure the control DF is going to make players care enough. I guess we will see.
Admins are trying to incentive people to play keeps /relic + other kind of stuff with tasks.
But what is happening now, ie everyone going Brawl emain independantly of the tasks show how little interest daoc player base have with this.
Keep/relic have Always been a very painful experience for most players, i think players liking it are a niche. Just looking at the History if this serveur, only the hib zerg played it because they had basically nothing else to do. They were mainly compound of smallman that cant roam against 8players. And hib IS probable the best realm to smallman zeg (Bard +anything)
nothing wrong if people prefer to fight openfield at least you dont have to deal with npc guards or doors and you can just do what you like and get rps
I think that a lot of players are just being like kids on Christmas morning after they've opened all their presents: it's not that they don't like their old toys, but they have so many new ones to play with! I am hopeful that once the bloodlust settles down (and the relic bonuses go in), we'll start seeing more than just one or two guilds out in the frontiers cleaning up after the Hibernian day shift.
As far as the realm-war goes, I am definitely one of those players that really like sieging and defending keeps. I hope that we eventually get all the toys that live had: catapults, onagers, boiling oil, etc.
Edit: One thing that I think would help incentivize the realm war would be to increase the rewards for taking and/or defending keeps. Presently the ~300 RPs for taking an undefended keep is not worth the effort to even run out to a keep when a person could get 10x that in the same amount of time in Emain.
Seems like there was a bit more keep taking when I first joined here. Seems now everyone just zergs emain. I hope the incentives to take keeps and relics is enough that more people do it after launch. I do enjoy keep taking, but honestly, I prefer NF over OF, where controlling keeps and towers opened ports, and having more siege weapon options altered strategy a bit.
I've found that showing up to "defend" a keep where no one shows up to attack it, and staying within licking distance the whole time, and dying of boredom, and traipsing around the keep, and counting ceiling tiles, and counting toes nets you...
Wait; crunching the numbers....
Kk got it. ZERO rps.
The rps I've gotten for a keep where someone did show up to piss in our general direction while drunk netted laughably tiny amounts of RP, but if no one shows up, not a damn drop of it. So people don't defend. And attackers don't attack if no one's going to defend when there's a freaking ZERG in Emain and that chat window is scrolling furiously with death messages from Emain.
I haven't spent enough time paying attention to notice people entirely ignoring a "Dominate Breifine!" task, but I have seen all of the crossroads go unclaimed for a very long time, just one zone away from Emain.
I've been rolling Mids, because my Hibbies are tired of hauling ass out to Emain to die within moments. If I'm going to die in moments, it's kinda nice to hit a teleporter and come RIGHT BACK. Lately, I've been seeing one or two FGs of guilded and organized Hibbies coming to Emain, sometimes even rolling right up to the mpk, and I see NO ONE ELSE from Hibernia. No stealthers, no PUGs, no smallmans. I'm guessing they also roll mid or, *shudder*, Albion. You made perfectly good Hibernians hate themselves so much, that they rolled Albion. That's unforgivable.
If players want to zerg then encourage them to full group zerg at keeps instead of circling emain. Keeps need bigger rewards instant rewards for this to happen.
Prior to i50, task participation was very high. Now, it seems the majority just fight in eMain.
1) task somehow , but keep not that much tbh.
2) i think that people also tried the task / keep experience to see how it was going here, and then realize it was still not enjoyable so they are not doing it again.
3) all those i50 New players are not even giving a try cause they know they dont like that
I m not saying nobody like it, but it is a simple observation to Say that most players of the servers are not interested to fight keep.
Animists get the worst of all worlds. Extremely long run AND their relative strength in keep take / defend is pretty much not part of the game anymore.

The bold underlined part... really? The player base has changed that much? If so, I'll probably not be playing.
