To be honest though, that's quite far fetched, and could go either way.
It could very well stay within 700units of your range, instead of having to run out of range to keep hitting its target, like a melee pet would have to do.
And a melee pet only instantly hits you when it is close by, otherwise it has to run towards you (which is also much more obvious than the pet casting from somewhere).
