Underpopulated Realm Timer Relief

I KNOW this is a highly controversial topic but I wanted to start a conversation for unpopulated realm relief.

Personally, last night was a pretty boring night for RvR. At one point there was 120 Albs and 50 Mids/Hibs and this really unbalanced RvR. It felt like there were Albs everywhere and it was a real struggle finding fights; when a decent fight was started it was quickly saturated with Alb groups.

My group and I would've loved to switch to our Hibs to help balance the numbers but the four hour realm timer would've prevented us from doing this.

Personally I am for the four hour realm timer but I think it would be neat addition to remove the realm timer if you are moving from a highly populated realm to an underpopulated realm, especially when the numbers were that dramatic.

Is the timer there to discourage realm spying?

It's kind of hard to stop that nowadays with Discord and Stream sniping, etc.

Maybe a 30 minute timer would work?

They have stated multiple times and reason why a shorter/longer timer wont help the population/realm hoppers. However I do think a free switch to underpop is a good idea, would especially help out NA nights.

The timer is not to prevent spying. The staff knows its impossible to stop that these days

Not a bad idea ... but i have to think more before agree 100 % on that.

Maybe is not good let players that was in Alb zerg (for example) switch to a Hib/Mid zerg, giving info on Alb plans ...

I think too many people are focused on "the zerg" and "spying". Nobody needs to swap a realm to do any of that anymore.

The OP has a very valid point. I know soooo many players that would swap realms during their primetime if allowed. Simply to help balance out the action. If ever there were a valid reason for this, it would be to help the action during NA prime. The population isn't that amazing during NA prime and this could possibly allow a couple of groups to swap realms that evening. Instead of having 5 alb 8mans running around, maybe we could have 2-3 in each realm.

when i read about the option to always be able to go to the underpop realm, i immediatly thought:
Well that would make me try and always log into the biggest realm first, since i can always switch away later if i don't find enough enemies.

Think about, this proposal is basically a perk for playing the highest pop realm, not the other way around
It won't necessarily lead to the wanted effect

I respectfully disagree. Technically people can already do that, log in and see the realm map and the /u NF population and just log onto the winning realm.

What I'm suggesting is if things are in poor condition, like 120 vs 50 vs 50.

Apparently you could just log out and not play.

That's what I'm told regularly.

Lame daoc community can't keep a server healthy smh.

I believe you didn't fully get what i was saying.
Yes, currently you can already check realmpop and participate in the strongest realm....but the "only" benefit for that currently is that you can join the winning BG.
With the suggestion implemented you would have another reason to log into the strongest realm first...because it leaves you the option to switch realm.
Going to the weakest realm locks you into it and you won't be able to switch, so theres a bigger risk involved
