The Old Graphics

Oh how I despise the Catacombs graphics.

I find the catacombs models outrageously bad.

The old character models, capital cities, zones etc... were way better.

I know it is my opinion. It is subjective. I just find that the Catacombs changes look nothing like the DAOC most of us enjoyed.

It is offensive what Mythic did and it was entirely in respone to WoW being released in 2004. I feel so strongly about this. 100% Mythic was in the wrong to do this. They tarnished one of the most immersive worlds ever.

I really feel that the new models destroyed alot of the artistic integrity of the game. They don't look like DAOC.

I know this isn't a priority, but if one day we could see old Tir na Nog or Jordheim or Camelot it would be really special.

You can use the old character models... As for cities, even if they had the old city models and textures, I'm pretty sure it's not possible to make it optional and support both at the same time. The overall layout of the cities did not change but the geometry probably still changed in a way where some collisions aren't in the same place as they were in the old cities, so you can't support both or you'll have collision and clipping issues for either the people using the old graphics or the people using the new graphics.

The Catacombs models make me absolutely nauseous. What a travesty. My eyes are getting sore just THINKING about the updated models.

Why can't we go back to the way things were in 2001? I'm mainlining nostalgia over here and I don't have any fucking time to be bent over my toilet heaving out the sliders I reheated for lunch.

Sometimes I'll be playing DAoC, minding my own business, when suddenly I catch sight of an updated model. Whenever this happens I feel my stomach gurgling. With the discomfort rising I spam click a porter and yell: "Snowdonia!!!!". Ninety to one hundred and twenty seconds later (I play on my original PC-- can't stand how sleek the newer versions of Windows look) I load into Snowdonia. I desperately hop on a horse going south and jump at Swanton Keep. My salvation.

I bring my knees up to my chest and gaze at its blocky textures and sickly brown facade. I can feel the panic start to drift away. Peace has been restored. I open the doors and run around inside. It is so enclosed and tight. I feel so safe here, swaddled in pixels. I look around at the awkwardly placed NPCs. Each one I know by name. It might seem that they were carelessly dispersed in the small courtyard by a dev with too much on their plate, but I know each one was put there with thought and foresight-- something seriously lacking in the world after SI was released.

Taking a deep breath I realize it is probably time to do my daily walk around the block. Seeing everything in my neighborhood that has changed in the past two decades makes me very uncomfortable, but my mom says I've gotta exercise. I pull up my JNCO jeans, jam my Walkman in my pocket, throw on one of my hoodies, and head out the door.

The catacombs models came out in 2004. They look awful then and do now. Unfortunately, we are gonna be stuck with them. They look terrible and do not mesh with the rest of the world. It was like they tried to make them look more photorealisitic because eq2 and wow were realeasing. They botched it and now were stuck with that nonsense.

I play without cata models... there is a check box or drop down in the Options page of the character select screen to change to Classic models...

I know. I was just talking more about capital cities, darkness falls etc... It is what it is. More pressing issues. Let us move on.

Post a link of those I can not even remember. Agree with me Mythic damaged the game with graphics overhaul.

No offense but, your "Moose" looks nothing like a moose. Moose have antlers with big flat paddles on them and a longer snout. Looks more like an Elk to me. Just sayin

Three cheers for the moose aficionado here. I think Stag is the more appropriate term.

Since you felt the need to point out my expertise regarding moose I have to correct the term "Stag" as well. "Stag" according to Google, says: stag
staɡ/Submit
noun
1.
a male deer.
2.
BRITISH•STOCK MARKET
a person who applies for shares in a new issue with a view to selling at once for a profit.
adverbNORTH AMERICAN
1.
without a partner at a social gathering.
"a lot of boys went stag"
I am assuming you are referring to definition #1 which refers to a Male deer. I still stand by that the image linked looks more like an elk more than a Male deer. If you feel the need to give me more sarcastic cheers then so be it. Whatever makes you feel good bro..

Don't be a jerk. I was complimenting your interests in zoology. I'm from a state where there are moose and I was proud someone knew the difference between moose and elk. I only referenced the term Stag because that's what most people called the Hero ability back when I played daoc on Percival. Stag form.

Sorry that you thought i was being sarcastic.
Edit: changed biology to zoology.

Sorry man.
I definitely didn't mean to be a "jerk". I have to admit alot of posts on these forums have compliments that are completely sarcastic in content. I apologize for assuming the worst.
Hopefully you can at least understand where I come from though...

DF and Capital Cities got revamped in Darkness Rising, not Catacombs.

I can understand the Catacomb Character Models not being your cup of tea, but I don't understand how you can have such hatred for the DF/City revamp... I'm not sure you remember how much the old versions looked like ass.

Thank you for this clarification. I find the new cities too dark and drab. They also don't mesh with the rest of the zones in the game. it just looks out of place.
