Style Damage Overhaul?

What does this mean exactly and what are the details? Keep in mind that many of us playing and testing here have had a really bad experience with sweeping changes thanks to Broadsword on live and don't want a repeat of that experience. If the devs here could outline what the changes are it would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed. Is there any documentation of these changes? What was changed? Should we expect higher style damage? less? both? changes to effects? This might win the prize for most vague patch note ever

Haha I assume it was just a heads up.

it feels like a hard nerf. my hero is hitting about 80 - 100 dmg less with CS than before. the difference between using anytime taunt and side chain is 20~ dmg per hit, using backstyle snare is 3 dmg more than anytime taunt ( agains dummies ). with that dmg theres no reason to pick a hero instead of a bm.

In agreement with cage. My hero seems to have noticeably reduced style growth with the side chain, which is absolutely vital for damage output. The numbers need a close inspection unless this was an intended nerf. Either way, please provide an indication of which styles were affected and how. Changes such as these can drastically alter class balance in RvR, and it's quite frustrating to stumble onto them with no documentation.

My understanding is that there were a number of bugs with the existing style system and the DoL coding for styles in general.

I assumed this was an attempt to fix it and bring it closer to a live-like state rather than a custom balance overhaul.

I know melee/styles definitely weren’t working properly before the patch, but haven’t been able to test it since.

Then there needs to be a detailed statement of what a "growth style overhaul" means for each style. How do you tag a developer here on the forums? This is a thread they should really pay attention to. Keep in mind that myself and a lot of players left live because the developers there kept messing around with style lines and base damage for classes without telling anyone. Specifically they (Broadsword) ninja-nerfed Stealther melee (and boosted CS damage to give Assassins something back) because I boosted my Ranger's melee to the maximum level and was killing people with that spec. When I revealed that base damage had dropped by 30% without documentation I and many players left the game. The main developer (John at Broadsword) refused to acknowledge that the nerf ever happened even though independent testing confirmed it.

You have the "ask to the team" forum.

I guess the team will reveal everything with the new character planner on the web site.

Anyway, I agree with every concerns above, but I have faith in the team. We're still in beta and things can change again.

The change made all styles except stealth opener use growth rates.

Before the change we used the technically more correct formula (https://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Melee_Damage search for styles) but with wrong data per style as there is no way to actually get the correct values for the old styles, this lead to cases where styles that should do noticeably different damage did about the same damage.

We're using multiple sources for the growth rates but in general whatever your char plan from before the style change on live says should be what the growth rate is here now for styles.

Excellent, thank you so much for letting us know. The original wording on the patch notes was really vague so I got really concerned, especially after everything that happened on live. I know you guys aren't Broadsword so I know that you guys are working hard to make sure it's a good server for everyone.
