What is the role of an assasin on the frontier ?

I'm struggling to decide if I want to develop a 50 assassin. What is their role on the frontier besides reporting enemy activity ? Can a solo assassin execute that role ? ( I ask because I have a young 34 NS. I thought I would be able to go to my BG keep that the enemy might hold and kill solo guards on the parapet.I did that as all assassins. do in regular DAOC as a way to help prep a keep for an assault by visible players. I found that was not possible in Phoenix because solo guards call other guards from great distances so you fight ends up 1 vs 3-4 and death) Is this as intended or should it be changed ? WHAT ARE THE ROLES OF AN ASSASSIN ON THE FRONTIER OR IN BG'S ?

It isn't fighting guards.

You will probably look up xp items and go find the spots in the frontier people farm the xp items and kill them.

Or if someone has to go to a certain area for a pvp task, u wait and as they skip along the path humming a toon,

You stab them over and over until they die.

So you feel the role of an assassin is not to be a war fighter...but to kill members of the other realms who are out to xp. A griefing class but not a war fighter. IF this game is focused on realm vs realm conflict, how does this activity help my realm accomplish that ?

ban stealthers for griefplay

Assassins pick off people that are trying to return to a battle or coming to join it.

Those stragglers that run back by themselves are where assassin's thrive.

Realistically, assassins are more like terrorists in the modern world.

They break supply lines. They cause terror. They pick off solo people.
Non standard warfare. Or Asymmetrical warfare. Where one side has fewer people.

If you attack fgs u will die. So you kill solos to build up your realm rank and then also start finding and killing the enemy assassins.

One of my favorite characters is Vladamir Taltos from the Steven Brust Jhereg books. Probably misspelled all that.

His toon was challenged by a sword master to duel and he told him that if he didn't pay his debt he would have him killed and then make it look like he died to a simple mugging while haggling over a prostitute.

That is a rogue character vs an honorable character.

Pay my debt. No I will challenge you to a duel. Pay my debt or you will die in whore alley fighting over a prostitute.

He paid the debt.

To provide a class that can join the RvR as a solo player.

Assasins play a lot of rolls in RvR. Providing intell, killing enemy stealthers, working the walls in keep sieges, giving casters and archers something to think about, running rams on inner doors. Dont underestimate their value to a battlegroup. Unfortunatly, they rarely get to put these skills to use here on phoenix as keep warfare is limited, rams are non-existent, and RvR is driven by randomly decreed tasks instead of player initiative. Still, they offer good melee dps to a zerg group, and with good poison useage and a demezzer to help them can be of value on an assist train.

Aside from this they provide entertaining reading on the forum by farming Relvinian repeatedly.

If at one point enemy intel becomes more important, their role will increase.

Right now, with keep tasks, you know the defenders are stacked around the keep, and the attackers are sending kamikaze attackers to die for credit.
If this changes to actually having to guess which keep is being attacked, and which is defended, then their role becomes more interesting.

Role of an assassin.. Add on every fight you can preferably their healer, You didnt get XP groups so now its payback for having to solo all your Xp lol Steal as many arrreeepeeees as you can (/sarcasm off).. Sit at AMG,MMG,HMG depending on zone, /region enemy movements. Climb into keeps and disrupt as many people as you can.

If you don't mind dying a lot, and sitting around waiting a lot this is the class for you.

Role of an assassin is to camp mile gates so you can kill bards and minsts who try to lure you away from the mile gate. Cant tell you how many times ive incd on a minst or bard and they expect me to chase them. 99% of the time they get frustrated that they cant kite me and run back to the mile gate but by that time im already restealthed and I get a 2nd pa off

I've always thought the role of assassins was the grief the opponents so much that they quit playing, thus increasing the chance that your side "wins".

How the hell would they get RPs for that?

Rock, paper, scissors. Just because your class can't handle an assassin class does not make that a griefer class.

I don't think there's a correlation between RP's and having fun.
Right now they get plenty of rps, if thats your main goal, by camping Milegates with 5 other stealthers.

My point ws that your "role" for them doesn't have any incentives attached. We are not amused by the colored blocks you're trying to hand us.

I might have failed to understand your post as a whole.
But first of all I did not make this server, so "your" and "you're" does not apply to me.

Anyway, no one has any incentives attached, apart from the fun they see in whatever they do, and rps.

My armsman has no incentives apart from enjoying to group and fight, and solo and fight.
My scout has no incentives, apart from enjoying to hunt people and sometimes do stealth groups.

Not really sure if you want some specialized missions made for assassins?
Sat 15 Sep 2018 9:03 PM by Thinal
No, this is definitely "you." Nobody from Phoenix said that they wanted the role of assassins to be intel.

They're the thorn in the side. Very good as a solo player and small man stealth team. They pick a spot with high traffic and pick their own fights and try to end them as quick as possible. Invading keeps in keep takeover or defense, camping gates or the worst kind, camping XP spots.

That's the best way to play stealth.
