Casting Commanders would put the usefulness of BDs more in line of most casters regarding damage output. While now the BDs combat viability relies almost exclusively on keeping the Commander alive while he runs in, likely to be CCd, to get killed in a offhand way thus killing the rest of your pets. Making them slightly more useful than a pet less necro.

I'm sure it's a pain to pull off on the fly, but you can get your subpets attacking without having your commander attacking. I understand what you're saying, though; BD commanders are very vulnerable in group situations and a BD without pets is not all that effective. I think a caster commander would have to be pretty low damage and/or non-body non-cold damage type and would have to not have other components to their nukes, like no snare-nuke. Seems like it would be very difficult to implement without potentially messing up balance. I would think we'd need to wait and see how the current BD changes work out for a bit longer.

How do you do that?
Attacking to start the casts and immediatly passive so commander turns around didn't work for me. Do the pets have to go through a certain % of their casttime before you pull back the commander?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do it. I just remember it being discussed in /advice and several people concurred that the method to do it works.

Attack Target -> follow will do the trick. The commander will withdraw to your side while your pets nuke the target, but he is still on defensive. If anything tickles you, he will attack it and you have to renew follow. If you don't watch your pet constantly, it will break cc/peel on tanks and pets. This is certainly not perfect, but better than watching the commander charge in and go down with 3 nukes.
