Strength soft caps and melee damage

Wondering if there is a melee dps/strength calculation for Phoenix?

Is there any information regarding what strength soft caps melee classes should aim for? What the potential damage variance would be per level of strength between 300-400 (pretty sure the 400 hard cap isn't possible) and what significant break points may exist?

I had been working on investing into Aug. Strength on my Mercenary to increase my weapon skill and dps and was advised to invest into mastery of pain first for raw damage potential and worry about increasing strength later. Just curious what reasonable strength level most melee dps'ers are shooting for.

iirr gruenes has explained somewhere that they do not have breakpoints where scaling dramatically changes

Can't find the quote though, so all i can give you is hearsay and my holey memory

Gruenes do you have any data available regarding this topic?

No cap, no difference in scaling, every point of str (well, every point making your total str even as there it's divided by 2) increases the damage modifier against the same target by the same amount and therefore the damage as well.
