Endurance Changes and Paladin / Albion issues.

Feedback on new changes and endurance issues:

It seems like the latest changes will make Albion at a disadvantage when it comes to group set up and choice of set up. Whereas I was of the assumption (and perhaps many others were) – Phoenix had a mission to strive and make some of the classes around the realms more viable – but hopefully not at the expense of causing an imbalance to the realm v. realm content.

I understand the devs preferring us to group with the endurance classes instead of running potions, however, shaman and bard have always been viable in every group set up per their realm. Paladins, on the other hand are still not at that level. I don’t know what is needed. Perhaps stoism, or something?

The recent changes have me concerned for the Albion realm, as it now will streamline the choices of group setup and pushes the choices into a bottle neck, where FIVE of the classes you must run to be viable (and comparable to the other realms) are cleric, cleric, minstrel, sorc, and now paladin. (This doesn’t even cover the lack of full resists that the other realms have access to as well, given by core classes of every group).

TANGENT: (To cover speed, end, mez, heals and buffs)
Hib only needs a druid, druid and bard to start a group and has flexibility thereafter. (3 core classes)
Mid needs healer, healer, shaman, skald to start a group and has flexibility thereafter. (4 core classes)

If this change remains and goes into live/launch – then I would strongly urge the devs to reexamine the paladin as a class itself, and revisit just how else it can be more comparable to shamans and bards, in contrast to the many different KEY abilities that are given to them (IE Mez, demez, disease, base buffs, conc based end, roots and heals – etc).

At the very least, I would also suggest to keep end 4 yellow regen pots as well, if none of the above will be addressed.

Thanks.

Thank you for posting this, because I'd rather be shot in the head than play Albion. I do play mostly Hib and more Mid these days (cough... emain... cough), and both of those realms are convinced that their realm got the short end of the stick on this change.

I'm not going to get into the minutia, as that's a game of paper DAoC with no win condition, nor will I assert who has it worst or best. I will mention a couple things:

1. You are vastly underestimating the number of base roles in each realm's meta.
2. You are assuming that a class that has access to endurance regeneration is going to both be specc'd to do so and able to sustain that job throughout the battle, and this is not always the case.

going to mess around on a pally tonight but from what I gather I like that END usage is now a thing, Ive only played inf for an hour and half last night with the end changes and I just added LW1 with the free tireless and I cant perm sprint. which isn't a big deal at all once I stealthed it regened pretty rapidly, I did however see that using garrote/achilles being HIGH end cost.. you cant just sprint and keep spamming them.. I now switch off to amy/diamond much lower end cost.. it opens up so many possibilities in melee now.. I remember the days when auto hitting people while you regened was a thing. and waiting for end to land a reactionary or possibly blowing it for a anytime.. I see defense bonus styles now coming into play and I rather enjoyed it from a infs perspective

that all being said, I know this will effect other classes much much more, and I cant really comment on that atm.

I do think pallys should get DEMEZ and castable Spec AF buff for realm mates Conc and range naturally. There af chant should be removed in its entirety and make it a castable. These two I think could quite possibly add conc for the cleric to cast more buffs or better buffs while also letting them demez while taking one less chant for a pally to have to try to twist.

To fix the Paladin Heal Chant needs to be tripled. Fixed. The spec points and damage table was a nice change but not enough.

What’s broken is the twisting mechanic, hence why they did away with it in later patches. That’s what the issue is. On Phoenix it is illegal to use a macro to twist, so good luck with that.

The Paladin was broken from the inception of the class. Mythic thought a superior Defense would be equal to a superior Offense. That has never and still is not the case.

A few weeks ago I was telling friends that used to playDAOC, that Phoenix was looking really good and might even be better than the original game was ever.

However;

These endurance changes, along with the changes to XP, Feathers, XP items, item models being removed, stealth, and the over reaching on class and RA balance...yes we’ve heard rumor of the GP changes or removal and other nonsensical ideas, my view of this server and what direction the team is taking has waned.

I fear Phoenix will be meant for your pro gamer 8 mans that don’t give two killabits about realm pride, building a community, keeps or relics. Unless you think setting up fights in emain is a community.

could you elaborate? (serious here, not trying to be snarky)
no matter how i turn it, i don't see how having a core of 3or4classes in a group is a disadvantage to needing 5core classes?

as far as i remember albion always was the least PUG friendly realm, because it was much harder to build a decent group than on other realms, you needed far more specific classes to set up a group. For premades that is not an issue, but even then "not an issue" is still far from being at an advantage
