I have to tell you this story. Because it's just crazy.
I was making the first steps with my Thane named Thargor in Thidranki yesterday night when a Skald whispered me. She asked if I ever played on Uthgard and I had to admit that I tried but retired soon after reaching Level 5 or so. Anyway, she asked if I knew a Druid called "Sappho" on that server. Apparently I don't because I rarely ever left my Midgard home. But: I once created a character named Sappho in a pen&paper game. It was a really cool char and so the name made his way into the pool of names I use in games when I play a female char. So when Phoenix launched I logged in and blocked a couple of names - including Sappho. Now I told the Skald that I don't know that person but actually have blocked the name myself on Phoenix. I told her about the background of "my" Sappho and she asked me if I was willing to delete the char and make the name available for her. I do not want to elaborate on her story behind that name but how could I have refused that plea. What a bitter ending would that have been? She offered reimbursement but how would you weigh such a piece of fortune. So I logged off and deleted my Sappho for her. Farewell, little girl. Midgard will miss your healing power. I hope your sister will grow strong over there.
Only one question remained: Why the hell did she whisper just me? She told me, she was just casually checking /who thid and saw my name on the list. On Uthgard, she had a friend named Thorgar and she thought my toon may be him. I don't find a word for how crazy this is.
Sappho out there - I will keep that story in my heart. Hope to meet you one day in Emain. To me this is a lesson what DAoC is all about. It's not the RR. It's the people you meet. And crazy stories like this.
