Time to Hang It Up

Welp, today is the day. I have completely removed DAoC from both my computers at this point.

If anything, playing this server has brought the unfortunate realization that DAoC will never again be the game i loved several years ago and i need to move onto something new or something that is more my style.

Not everyone is going to be happy with every single change that is made. You have People who love NF, and people who love OF. People who love animists, and people who hate animists. People who hate zerging, and people who love zerging.

Another thing is the type of people that play currently. 14 years ago there were more family and friends oriented guilds who would run RVR, Raids, and Exp groups. This server is not that. There are maybe 1 or 2 guilds on the server that push a "family" feel, and even they have their own little cliques that wont group with people. The remainder of guilds are small groups of people who Min Max all their stats and will not group out of their friends circles because god forbid they lose a fight because a random didn't stun someone at just the right time.

Leveling is mostly solo, because if you aren't playing a very specific class that allows for the fastest leveling of everyone else in the group, you're shunned. Because today's players want nothing less than instant gratification. While leveling is "fast" even when soloing, that is not the reason most people play Massively Multiplayer Online Games. They play to converse with people. They play to meet friends.

And while i know people are going to chime in with "QQ", "Git Good", and "Can i have your stuff", that just proves what i'm saying about people not knowing how to communicate and be decent human beings towards each other, and again, is another reason this server will not last on its current path. I don't blame that on the Dev's, because i do believe they are trying their hardest to please as many people as they can. I blame it on the toxic and antisocial personalities demanding they get their way, and crapping on anyone who disagrees. The people who shun anyone who enjoys anything other than OF with classic RA's and no Zergs.

No. You can't have my stuff.

To the OP: I feel your pain. It's like going back to your favorite bar from college, and finding it's turned into a hip trendy franchise joint. They really have brought in the eSport feeling to an old game...and a bitter-know-it-all population with it.

I'd say take a break...

Hopefully by fall, DAoC will have 2 playable free shards...a eSports one for the streaming l337 boiz, and a chill classic server that's actually built a community of people that like the game for what it is.

Flame on, like I know you angry dorks will =)

OP, I'm almost there myself. Removed the client from one computer. Going on a 9 day vintage car rally and will see how I feel when I return to determine if I remove it from the 2nd computer.

And I'll definitely give people my stuff if/when I uninstall.

Sounds like you were playing Hibernia, you described my experience playing there exactly.

When I moved to Midgard it was an entirely different game; Mids are very inclusive on this server.

I dont see the point of those kind of threads. Either make suggestions what people can do better or make your own guild and run it yourself and try to keep all people happy (thats not easy to do) or just leave quietly. Imho it just seems like attention/validation seeking that you are doing the right thing or you want others to follow in your shoes. Just do a daoc break for a few months and maybe comeback later if u want or not. I also havent played since they nerfed the item charges but who knows maybe if they devs decide one day they either make a lvl 50 bg or give every class access to speed charges I get motivated enough to come back or if I have nothing else to play.
